I think the early morning ascent via Sovatna is more suitable than via Luknja, as you have a guaranteed view of the ibexes. One short jump and some protections to the top do not represent a big obstacle, can be a bit dizzying though. When you reach the top, then just down the other side towards Luknja. I think it is hard to miss the path and that from the top you will definitely know where and how to go.velik nasmeh

The path from Dovška vrata to Luknja crosses the summit, so there is no need to think which path to continue from the top.
In which direction you do the tour is your own thing and decision. You have a nicer view of the Stena when descending from the top to Luknja, as the Stena is right in front of you the whole time.

Bovec Chamois was our third two-thousander on our pilgrimage to Razor. We always try to spice up the mountain path by returning via a different route. View on Gamsovec from Pogačnikov dom offers a long rocky ridge to the top along which there is a nice easy path. We also cross a nice little chimney. Before the signpost to Luknja, we turn to the summit. Iron helps here too. Then the long descent to Luknja. We got quite tired. To Vrata, night almost caught us. It is nice to descend to the bed of Triglavska Bistrica and drink a sip of cold pure Triglav water.
Pogačnikov dom - we say goodbye until next year. They have good strudel. They even cooked žganci.1
It was hot. The sheep were seeking shade.2

That day we really saw only chamois in most cases. On the path to Gamsovec we saw only a couple of ibex below. They were on that scree field under Pihavec.28

Matej hasn't been higher for a while, so we went to Bovški Gamsovec where he hadn't been. Up from Vrata via Luknja, down via Sovatna. Nice weather, temperature just right for hiking. On the top a group of mountain rescuers from Kranj joined us. Ibex and chamois made the tour nicer. In Vrata on the parking lot cars from almost the whole of Europe. Also checked out the Peričnik waterfall.

Today from Vrata via Luknja to Bovški Gamsovec. Snow starts at about 1300 meters and continues to the top of Luknja. Further from Luknja the path is dry for a while, around 1900 meters then snow again for 100 elevation meters. Further the path is dry, except right below the summit you need to cross 20 meters of snowfield but can avoid it on the lower side. More in pics

From Luknja to the top dry, to the hut there's still quite some snow lower down on the slopes. With a bit of slaloming between snow patches you might manage to walk very little on snow.

Adding another picture. The whole path isn't visible as there are depressions in between, but some approximate idea of the conditions can be seen.
