Nice pics, Franci. Gamsovec has the best view of Stena.

One question: How do you know the bear was just a few hours before you? Because the snow wasn't iced in the middle?
How do you tell from the print, especially "a few hours"?
No sarcasm, it really interests me, my hunting/tracking knowledge is nonexistent :-)

Rutil. My estimate of the track age is by feel. Because the temp. that night at Kredarica was +8°C, it means the snow was melting all the time and I hike lots in the mountains in snow, I roughly know how tracks (human) look after a few hours e.g. returning to the valley on the same path where you left the track in the morning.
If those tracks in these conditions were a day or two old, they would be much more blurred.nasmeh

I would praise the picture of the long-flowered gentian. I had to look it up in the key what that wonder is.

I'm interested if crampons are currently needed on the path through Sovratna?

Thanks and regards

There's only one snowfield approx. 20m where you need to be more careful. Crampons are not necessary.
It's called through Sovatna not Sovratna.mežikanje

Morning in Vrata was quite lively already at 3am when a fallen tree almost hit the road velik nasmeh. That tree made me do extra 9 km today nasmeh. Went up past bivouac above Luknja, down through Sovatna, conditions still similar as Franci described a couple days ago. I met chamois just before Luknja and there really are lots, not shy at all jezik

Hello, sorry I do not speak Slovenian. But I wanted to ask if it is already possible to climb Bovški Gamsovec from Aljažev dom through the Luknja Pass without any winter equipment? From the picture it looks like it. Many thanks for the information. John

Were you also at Križ? How much snow is there left? Does it pose any obstacle on the path?

Through Luknja to Bovški Gamsovec and return through Sovatna. Morning was humid due to night showers and then sultry. Path without special features. Met some marmots and only three chamois plus one hiker at the top.

Several years have passed since I was on Gamsovec. I decided on Saturday to go from Vrata valley to Luknja. Around 10 I finally started hiking. A bit below Luknja a shower caught me. Grasses were wet and I had to watch for safe steps. Then it cleared and to Pogačnikov dom I had nice views.

I'm wondering, is it better up via Sovatna or Luknja?
And when you choose one to go up, does it show from the top how to start down the other? Thanks
