Digital camera

Does anyone have experience with this camera?

http://www.mimovrste.com/artikel/1730459332/digitalni-fotoaparat-olympus-sz-16-srebrn

It's true it has 16 megapixels and 24x optical zoom, but it's still quite expensive. For comparison, this Pentax I'm selling has 26x zoom and 16 megapixels, costs 200 euros. I don't know what the deal is, also when looking at other cameras, sometimes it's the opposite, less quality more expensive, or better quality lower price, like Canon Powershot SX150IS. All this seems messed up with logic.eekzmeden

Let me add that I'm mainly looking for such a camera that you can, in plain speak, throw in your pocket and don't need two gun permits for. velik nasmeheekzavijanje z očmi
This Olympus imo would be quite suitable, just I don't get how it can be more expensive than Pentax X-5 I'm selling.zmedeneek If someone knows a similar camera at somewhat reasonable price, please let me know. What am I looking for? As I wrote above, a camera for which, in plain speak, you don't need two gun permits or that fits in your pocket, secondly the price should be somewhat acceptable up to 220-230 euros, thirdly advisable zoom around 20, pixels not under 14.

Thanks, very grateful for any advice.

I haven't used an Olympus camera yet, but when reading tests and looking at test images, I quickly changed my mind and took a reputable one instead. Say Nikon, Canon and Sony, only those I looked at; Sony didn't have such nice images as Canon and Nikon. Then I crossed Nikon off the list because of the expensive camera, so only Canon was left and I took the SX series.
So if you're buying, take for example this one:

Thanks for the reply Matej, I looked at that Canon yeah, but it has "only" 12 megapixels, so it doesn't come into consideration, rather pay 15 euros more and have 16 megapixels and 24x zoom. Difference is obvious.mežikanje

Megapixel count is far from everything. On small sensors a huge number of MP is more a disadvantage than an advantage. If image quality interests you, go to www.dpreview.com, where you can compare different cameras. All pics are fully comparable because they were taken in a studio under the same conditions.

But somehow I'm leaning most towards buying this camera:

I'm not some photo expert, but as Zebdi already wrote above, pixels and zoom are far from everything. The price is raised also (mainly) by other things, like for example
sensor, processor, aperture and so on.
And one more thing, I know lots of people who buy a camera for say 300 euros and always shoot only on "AUTO", or don't know 3/4 functions at all and thus don't get anything more out of it than someone with a circa 150-200 euro camera.
I recommend you read some book or online about photography basics and don't rush the purchase.
Oh, and lower the price of your Pentax, because if you get 150 euros for it you can be happy mežikanje

One feature that makes it more expensive is that they've crammed lots of good stuff into a small body and you don't need a firearms license for your pocketnasmeh

@Hribovc ..Chicho and Zebdi have basically said everything.. Pixels on a small sensor are more of a disadvantage than an advantage (due to shooting in poorer light conditions). In your place I'd look at what light power the optics has (aperture f/smaller number is better). Optical zoom (digital is just for crap counting), setting options (exposure compensation +/- EV), shutter speed, white balance settings (WB) etc. Of course first answer Chicho's question.. do you shoot only on auto? ..or do you also use manual settings.. If auto "works" for you then no need to reinvent the wheel.

To make it easier for you to decide, we've had an SLR Olympus E-410 camera for about 4 years.

Uh, don't mix DSLRs in - especially not if you're looking for a pocket camera. A beginner who shoots only on auto will be more disappointed than thrilled by them.

Hribovc88, first decide what you expect from the camera - size, how much optical zoom, etc., and how much you're willing to pay for it. Then go to dpreview, read the tests, compare sample photos (those at higher ISO values will give you a feel for what the pics will be like in poor light conditions), then take the one that somehow appeals to you the most.

Thanks everyone for the very useful advicemežikanje, I'm somehow deciding between these two cameras:

Probably the one for 265 euros is higher quality and more powerful, that's totally logical, more money more music.nasmeh

There's not even such an obvious difference between these two... the more expensive has a slightly better screen, USB 2.0, and longest shutter time (if shooting from tripod at night) is 4 seconds vs the cheaper one's 2 seconds.. which in practice isn't that big.. If money bothers you then the cheaper ...otherwise the expensive one.. (my opinion)

Thanks daaammežikanje, but now I'm a bit scared that I won't get it in my pocket, namely someone from Hribi.net portal users is selling SZ-14, and he wrote to me that he's selling it because it's too bigeek

Check in which store they have it in stock and go see it.. if you order it online, you can return it anyway..just in that case don't rip everything apart right away (packaging) jezik

My advice would be, don't look at megapixels and how many times zoom it has, and what features it has, but go to dpreview.com and read the review and look at the pictures - especially those taken at higher ISO! Also look at sensor size. Go test the camera at big bang if they have it, to see if it's responsive and fast.

A colleague bought an Olympus that has oh and all features (around 10x optical zoom, GPS,...). In practice though, the GPS takes so long to initialize that it's actually useless on a point and shoot camera, saving to card is extremely slow. Actually you'd be faster with a classic wind-up camera than this (even if the card is slow - the camera must have buffer for at least a few shots). Not to mention I couldn't copy pictures from colleague's camera because it has non-standard USB connector!?! In short, when using this camera, I had the feeling Olympus put all effort into making as many marketing features as possible.

So once again, read reviews before buying. Another story, colleague bought new Sony compact with 14m-pix for about 250eur, and concluded it doesn't work any faster than 10 year old Canon s45, 14mpix is marketing 14, real is about 8 or max 10, in low light it makes equally crappy pictures as the old Canon - only noise reduction algorithms for night shots are better.
