Grintovec

Hello,
next week, if the weather is good, I would head to the summit. If there is no new precipitation.. What's your opinion? Has the snow consolidated yet?

The snow will bond exceptionally in the next days, Grega. If it's south-facing now, in a week it will be concrete, such low temperatures are forecast.

On Grintovec next week there definitely won't be concrete.zmeden Above 2000m the new snow is fairly dry and due to low temperatures and very low humidity will remain unprocessed and poorly bonded to previous base for at least 10-14 days.

At most crust will form on sun-exposed slopes and, in case of stronger wind, slabs; concrete though you can expect by week's end only at 1000m height (i.e. snowline start) up to max ca. 1500m.

Deal, Tone. I suggest you go next Wednesday to Grintovec, take a shovel and make snow profiles on the traverse and upper slope/roof – i.e. between 2000-2500 m mežikanje

If the fresh snow really is concreted and not slabby, crusted.., then the profile will practically be impossible to make, and I'll of course buy you a beer at the first opportunity. velik nasmeh

The opening of municipal (regional) borders is looming, so there's a risk that many will want to taste freedom too soon. I think fit guys (Dejan, Jože,...) will trample the roof already this weekend and before Wednesday the hill will be pretty crowded at least for skiing.
With beer we'll toast anyway.nasmeh

Hmm, on Saturday in KSA at 2000 meters -17 degrees are forecast. If the snow up there now is south-facing (which I don't know) it will freeze and maybe it could even work. With warm clothing, of course velik nasmeh.

j. yes, but you need to add the wind too and you get wind chill - the feeling of cold:

Anyway, but even -17 is something to think about. A few years ago I was in similar conditions below Jalovec, the fuel froze in the car waiting at the parking lot.

Low temperatures are another world.

As already mentioned - above 1650m new snow is completely dry and unprocessed. Today I skied from Triangla and below the central gully in Begunjščica.. and above 1600m a bit less than half a meter of powder. And you think snow above 2000m will be hard?! jezik The base under this snow is hard though..

But conditions for the weekend and then next week will surely be good at Jezersko (Teranova, Sinji, Ledinc,..), Tamarju, the gully in Repov kot and maybe even in Brani (Bosova, Domžalska,..) - so everything up to ca 1500-1600m is ideal, higher up then more bootpacking.

https://www.snezak.si/razmere/nepricakovana-samota.html - at least check the pictures to get an idea about the new snow. And due to low temperatures and humidity it will only get even "drier". nasmeh

LunaTixz: not dreaming, thanks for info I didn't have. Nice you skied from Triangla and under Begunjščica.

Yes, conditions above 1800m in Julian Alps (where 4th danger level still officially applies today) are probably really very demanding. In eastern Karawanks (3rd level), especially below 1700m where I also skied, objectively weren't that bad - snow profile also showed stable base with partly wind-smoothed dry snow on it. nasmeh

Sorry if my comment about "dreaming" seemed provocative to you - that really wasn't my intention. mrk pogled

Have a nice evening!

Almost agree with everything you wrote. Except maybe Repov kot, where at last visit it was quite tracked, there right under Zeleniški mežikanje...don't know though why your link throws me to Mrežice? zavijanje z očmi

Pity if in that area all snow was tracked and now there's no base that could freeze - do you maybe have some pic before that last snowfall?

That snezak post isn't mine, I just attached it for impression of what snow is generally like above 1500m.
