Grinta, 06.04.15 Today I was up there, on normal route, weather was everything possible - First to Kokrsko saddle looked promising and sunny, from saddle could see it wouldn't be just that, and indeed soon from saddle up started snowing (overcast), then at entry and part of roof sun, then again cloudy and snow. On roof of course as forecasted north wind blowing (in gusts). Base for walking surprisingly good this time and no major sinking. A few pics and best regards

For relaxation after yesterday's match (not boxing) today I picked the champion of Kamnik Alps. Due to a bit late start I doubted how it would sink on descent, but it went smooth as butter. Up in predecessors' steps, down mostly glissading. Not many visitors, no wind either, road to cable car pretty good. As usual, adding some pics.

What are the conditions and what is the current difficulty to the bivouac via Grintavec (Pavel Kemperl bivouac). If anyone has a pic, please share. Thanks

Ice axe and crampons, unless you go via Gamsov skret. Bivouac pictured yesterday from Grinte.

istenic, I planned to go on Saturday from Kokrsko Saddle, got only to Small Gates and a bit further then turned around and went to Grintovec. Around 8-9am snow was already so crusty that slope traverse under Long Walls seemed a bit dangerous to me. Pic from Small Gates onwards.

That's a ptarmigan or snow grouse. There are more of them in Karavanks.

Tomorrow 19.4 I'd like to head to Grintovec. Does anyone else have similar plans? Weather looks sunny and cold. But I'm a bit worried about the fresh snow. Supposedly 10-20 cm fell. Is that enough for an avalanche? (especially on the roof) I'll appreciate any advice. Oh, this is my first post, so I hope I won't get replies like first winter course, then ice axe, crampons, helmet etc.. Winter conditions are known to me I'm just asking about avalanches.. best regards to all hikers.

10 cm is quite enough for a small avalanche. But again, it depends on the underlying base and the slope, especially the steepness... Like a roof it can be dangerous too.

Is anyone going to Grintovec tomorrow? I'd like to know how much snow there is at the hut where the cargo cable car ends at the top.

gams44, today I was on Grintovec. At the hut there's no snow except by the hut walls where there was wind-blown snow. The paths are all dry. But there's snow below the hut so caution is advised. If you're going further towards Grintovec, then winter gear. LP
