Today until about noon there were four of us on the summit. Morning sun, around 12 crazy fog.
Serious snow (about 10-15 cm new on old base) starts at around 2,200 m, sinks approximately to the ankles (depending on where), on one traverse I put on crampons which I kept to the top and back to cca 2,200 m. A bit unnecessary, but it went easier.

On Grintovec's roof on 18.5.2016 in thick impenetrable fog a black woolen glove got lost, which is now safe at 041 582 608.

I was there yesterday, to the saddle had to cross one snow patch (from Kamniška Bistrica direction), proper snow starts a bit before that traverse that brings you to the Roof. But snow was already very south-facing, so crampons stayed in backpack, went just with ice axe.

Since I know snow melts very fast I'd ask for as fresh as possible info how it is up there with snow?

today, 7.6.2016 from Kam. Bistrica to Grintovec. for start of week quite a few hikers. went in sneakers as far as possible on snow-free ground. Generally western part of roof is barer. snow patches start approx at 2200m. before that NONE. Conclusion: if you don't stick to marked path like drunk to fence, you won't tread snow.
photos taken on return when sliding on most snowy parts. not so bad.

Yesterday I listened to our noble forecasters and took the day off: Except one like-minded person, Grinta was deserted. No snow on path as Niko mentioned but nice to slide on his track.

Reservation definitely not needed (unless coming with three buses up). Just in rooms there are 105 beds, then also communal bunks, winter room... To peak of hiking season still far.
