Today I was on Kal Ridge. I started at the parking lot on Jezerca pasture, then across Koren pasture, Kompotelo and Vrh Korena onwards to the summit. I returned via Dolga Njiva pasture and Krvavec. On the path there are only a few snow patches left (mainly on the section Vrh Korena - Kal Ridge), which can be crossed without winter gear. No snow on the most exposed spots.

Yesterday (Saturday, Oct 2). From Roblek farm below the western slopes of Kal Ridge to the path below NW walls (hunter's path?, perhaps once called "Upper path to Kokra"), then onwards via path to Kalška Peak, Kal Ridge, Dolga Njiva and via Lojtra to the car. I left the car about 100m below the farm and crossed Neškarjev Graben towards the Old Supply Path and onwards through the maze of tracks and roads above Dolenčev Rob. About a km of path is quite overgrown with young firs, but passable. Above Suhadolnik the track slightly descends towards the Pod Grebenom slope, then rises to the right of the Old Path leading to Kokra Saddle. From there, still on tracks, I continued straight up the forested NE slope of Kal Ridge. When the path ran out, I kept about 100m at the edge between forest and dwarf pines, a bit above 1300m I spotted a stone barrier in the dwarf pines, under which I comfortably crossed left to the scree and up it to the entry of the hunter's path. At the start two old pitons and a faded red mark greeted me. The path starting in the gully continues left and winds barely noticeably for the first 50m up the grassy rocky slope. Higher up it's traceable but barely a good boot wide. A bit further I expected really steep and wet grassy ledges that the path crosses. But I was pleasantly surprised. On the key 150 or 200m someone deepened the footsteps with tools, so despite slippery terrain the about 30m long traverse wasn't too dangerous. The ice axe I took along out of caution just for this spot stayed on the backpack. The path further crosses several gullies and leads through cleared areas of dwarf pines, one or two passages are really picturesque. Continuing it approaches the NE wall of Kal Ridge very closely, then almost imperceptibly via two more gullies leads to the memorial plaque for Ivan Sterle who died on May 26 1926, same day two other hikers (more about this tragedy here) and to the water intake a few meters above the plaque. A bit further the path is again more visible (once probably built up), after about 600m it reaches the marks a few dozen meters above Cojzeva hut. I myself turned right about 100m behind the intake and straight up the grassy ridge to the path. On it I climbed to the ridge, then to Kalška Peak and via Škrbina to Kal Ridge. Protections on these paths are everywhere in good condition. From the summit I descended via Dolga Njiva (individual trees there already dressing in autumn colors) and onwards via Lojtra. First time here, the path is really excellently routed over sheer walls. Lower down I reached the road via the path almost exactly where I left the car. In the morning dark I forgot to lock it. Happens, this time without consequences. Below the ridge above Suhadolnik one could shorten the walk by about a km by climbing from the cross track up the steep forested pathless forest to the first and then second track crossing the forest higher up. But I wasn't quite sure if the tracks are even there, and climbing wet slopes already a bit covered with leaves didn't appeal much. But as I saw later, the tracks are there.

Beautifully conceived loop. Wondering if anything like a path is noticeable from the hunter's path to cross higher on the slope between Pod Grebenom and Neškarjev Plaz?

Thanks, Palčica. A bit above the hunter's hut left of Neškarjev Graben a quite abandoned track (wide path) branches off somewhat right upwards and then, according to sources (maps) turns left to a slightly flatter part of the ridge (violet color). From there one would need to look for a path (blue dotted), if it exists. I walked much lower and of course didn't see it, but the forest there is quite steep. One probable shortcut would go right upwards a bit further from the collapsed rusty rocks (my pic 2), first about 100m wooded pathless, then on the track. To Neškarjev Plaz according to some maps a path leads, ending below the slopes at the top of the avalanche. But I'm not sure if it really (or perhaps still) exists.

j., nice thanks for the effort. Actually I was looking at the path drawn up the Neškarjev scree upwards (Is it Noškarjev or Neškarjev scree? On pespoti.si map and you use the first spelling variant, the other is on PZS map, as also on Sidartinem. ). From what you can see on Google Earth, if looking at shots from different years, the path might continue across that meadow left above the scree. Of course it's quite possible that the zigzag is remnant of snow, because animals walked there or there were some other factors... Maybe exploration will come sometime.

@j. congrats on the tour choice. It really is a wild and interesting world there under Kal Ridge @palček plezalček, hunting passage goes across that meadow and then higher up crosses the west slope of Kal Ridge. Description you have in Habjan's Brazpotja guide. It's Neškarjev scree and not Noškarjev...

My colleague and I also headed to these parts on Saturday, 2.10.2021. We started at the parking lot by Jezerci, then via Tiha Valley to Kal Ridge. Back over Vrh Korena and Zvoh.

Mary, thanks. I googled a bit and saw that almost all use the name "Neškarjev scree", so I corrected it also in both my reports where I previously used pespoti.si as source. Palčica, I'll try it up there again sometime too. Maybe a chance for some new excursion (©: Palček Plezalček) .

@j., as far as I know you walked the so-called “German Path”, which was once marked. The hunting path probably became one much later. Otherwise, congrats for the tour.

Probably garmont is right. The guide also writes something about the old "German Path" right of today's old path or right to Cojzova hut. It is visible to the naked eye in the upper part, runs somewhere past Pasja glava. Read this too: Po brezpotjih okoli Grintovca (Franci Horvat, Bojan Okrogar).

Garmont is of course right, on this topic we already said something under the Grintovec heading early November 2017. This time I used the name "Upper path to Kokra", because it was interesting to me, described and cited in the source almost a hundred years ago (paper Jutro, 26 May 1926, article "Tragic Whitsun in Kamnik Mountains").

You should be ashamed for such a question. This is high mountains, not a living room where we play with those crampons. Lately there are too many accidents even with gear, without it not even worth thinking about. I assume you don't have the gear or don't know how to use it, so the answer is wait till summer until everything melts. But it's quite possible not to use gear, that's assessed on the spot. Good luck
