Kal Ridge this time from Suhadolnik (approach description in Vladimir Habjan's guide). Technically easy, orientationally tough nut (especially initial maze of forest paths and bit of off-trail). Spiced it up before upper edge. Instead of easy scree I scrambled left into the ridge. Luckily found good passages all to the upper edge (up to II, quite steep). Descent to Cojzova then via Taško to start (Suhadolnik). Another unforgettable mountain fairy tale. Regards.

Yes, dprapr, lately reading goes better 'off-hand' than writing. Luckily some soul-refreshing tour happens here and there. Glad those don't miss you either. :-) Take care.

Just two weeks ago we tried the same route with a very nice group, unfortunately without success Somehow we went too little across at first and too steeply up. Could you advise where we went wrong (based on the marked path in the pic), thanks

Hm, putimir, from the pic you definitely went too straight up. Did you spot the right path high above the hunting hut (greeted by cairn at end)? Next key part is off-trail (really sparse trail remains) from end of path to start of traverse right under rocky back, from there orientation not so hard (zigzagged scree). Regards.

Early in the morning to Cojzova hut at Kokra Saddle, where I meet the rest of the mates, first to Kalška gora, then to Kal Ridge, path without special features. Road drivable to the end.

Yesterday I ascended Kal Ridge via Neškarjev plaz. Morning wonderful weather, afternoon cloudy. Someone marked the path with cairns (and blue spray???). Still orientationally demanding, bottom due to many forest paths, top path disappears several times. Overgrown scree adds its own, but still wonderful path. Returned via Planina Dolga Njiva and Lojtra to Roblek. From there by cart track to Suhadolnik. Roblek to Suhadolnik 45 min fast walk. Ascent took three hours, same for return. LP Miro

Anyone been on Kal Ridge or the mountain in the last few days? They say there's not much snow. Thanks for any info.

On Saturday from Jezerca via Košutna and Koren to Kal Ridge. Path is dry, just a patch of snow a bit below summit which doesn't cause problems. Plenty of hikers on the path, especially lively on Zvoh over which I returned. On Krvavec just waiting for frost, cannons are ready.

Today I did the ascent from lower Kokra via Lojtra and Planina Dolga Njiva to Kal Ridge. To the top of Lojtra snow sinks in, from the pasture onwards frozen in places icy, so without crampons no way. With altitude snow height increases too, but too little for skiing as scree not covered yet. Returned same path. Road to Roblek normally drivable.

Today I probably did the last ascent of this year to a two-thousander, one of my winter favorites. From the Koren summit, caution and the use of crampons are needed. Further without, they need to be put on again before the summit. Snow is frozen, with drifts in some places. No visitors, but some on Koren and Kompotela.

Great Romany, is there enough snow for skiing to Pl. Dolge Njive? I plan to go up from below Zvoh.

Viharnik, I went via Planina Koren. On this side it is somehow possible to ski to here. Probably also to Dolge Njive as this side is more shaded.

Hello. I'm wondering if anyone has been on the Kal ridge or nearby peaks like Koren peak, Kompotela etc. in recent days and how much snow is left? If there's still lots of snow, does it probably sink in? Good to bring gaiters, any other gear? I plan to wander around this area mid next week, on easy paths. Is a bivouac possible somewhere (if I happen to decide to stay longer than 1 day)?

Hi I'm interested in the conditions of the path via Jež to Kal Ridge and from Long Meadows to Krvavec. Required gear? LP

Today the 20cm snow-covered Julijci didn't appeal to me, so I got excited for the mountain meadows of Kal Ridge instead. Started around 8h at Pl Jezerca, where the sun was just shining on Kriška pl planotes. Morning was still very nice with light wind and not too cold. When I climbed past Pl. Koren a bit higher, wind and fog started their dance. On Vrh Korana I met real mountaineers who, due to fog you could cut with a motorbike, turned back over Ježa ridge. Called Duško who was leading mountaineers on west part of Kal Ridge that day and we agreed to meet at the top. Every hundred elevation meters colder, visibility less than 50m. Where is that predicted clearness, we say. No Streha, no Skuta, nothing at all, just cold and fog with wind!. Ridge to Kalška gora still long and snow-covered too, so with Duško descended via Dolga njiva to Krvavec, from where I drove the drivers to Kokro to Suhadolnik and thing solved. When we all stood on Krvavcu clearness over KSA finally appeared, well at least something. Tour nice too with meeting most of Duško's team who were also winter on Ankoglu in even much stronger wind.

I plan to go to Kal Ridge from Krvavec via planina Koren. I know this path and in good weather it's not demanding, but I'm interested what the path is like (in good weather of course) - further to Kalška gora and return under the ridge (over Kalce) to Škrbina. In my opinion the most demanding rocky step (almost vertical, which in this case I would go up).

As you figured out, only those 5-10m of well-protected path are demanding and maybe over Ježa if returning there (nice loop). Otherwise very nice easy path offering plenty of views
