Please provide info, which of the listed routes to Kanjavec are dry and no winter gear needed: - from Zadnjica over Prehodavci - from Planina Blato Za Kopico - from Zadnjica over Dolič Thanks!

Only the first one is reliable. The other two have snowfields, opinions on the need for winter gear will probably differ, but they are uncomfortably steep

Under the Dolič hut, from Zadnjica 20m snow slab. I had microspikes (small ones) and they came in handy. Hiked 2.7.

If going from Dolič, the problematic snowfield is located under the Kanjavec summit. If you decide to go without winter gear, it's wise to cross it in the lower part and then climb up along the right side of the snowfield and join the marked path.

Does anyone have a more recent photo of the snowfields? We're going tomorrow, larger group, and I'm especially interested in the one under Kanjavec summit. For the one under the hut, the warden said they cleared it yesterday with ice axes.

I crossed the snowfield under Kanjavec (uninformed) on Saturday, the snow was soft then too. On Sunday morning everything was frozen and I'd probably have turned back at the snowfield. Most sensible is to detour via Hribarice, no problematic spots there.

Thanks for all the info and snowfield photo. Snow was soft in the afternoon, crossed all snowfields without issues, well, some experience is needed.

Back to Kanjavec after almost a year. First day from Zadnjica to Dolič, Kanjavec and overnight at Dolič. Tuesday beautiful clear day. There were still some snowfields on the way, but cautiously without crampons. On the way we were happy to meet Lojze. Besides other flowers, we also caught edelweiss. Views super, atmosphere very pleasant for hiking. At Dolič a helicopter just landed and took away an injured hiker. I read some impatient comments about rescues, obviously some don't realize how quickly an accident can happen to anyone. Towards the Kanjavec summit there's still a snowfield, but we bypassed it and returned to the marked path. Joy of all at the conquered summit, especially those who were there for the first time, there were 6 of them. Only pity that the summit clouded over and only a piece of Triglav showed for a moment...Descent towards Hribarice and to Dolič. Friendly in the hut, some already using vouchers. There were also some foreigners, mostly youth. Wednesday was for enjoying the good feeling after the conquered summit. We descended via Velska Valley, admiring the peaks around us and countless combinations of flowers...We added a bit towards Mišeljski Pass, rewarded with a chamois encounter. It wasn't disturbed, resting and watching us. Chickens on the pasture enjoying their way, same for cows. Seeing marmots is always special. And edelweiss and endless lilies along Tosec. End with a few drops on Pokljuka. Worth overcoming over 2,000m ascent, over 31,000 steps and 21km first day. And quite some descent, 33,000 steps second day and over 22km....Thanks to all eighteen for great company, especially to our very caring leader Alenka, without her many wouldn't have reached Kanjavec summit....

Kanjavec, really nice two-day trip. Everything was just as you wrote Lilyd.

A few years ago I promised it an annual visit and with me a promise holds. This easy and undemanding two-thousander has quite a few access routes, my favorite approach is from Krma. It's a bit longer, but the car drive is somewhat shorter. With nice weather forecast I enjoyed the warm sun all day extremely, shirts dried on the summit, due to complete calm I could focus more on photography, the summit was mine alone for almost a whole hour. Morning start from almost empty parking lot at two °C below zero. After half an hour of walking at suitable distance I overtake a hiker - he was the only person I saw during my tour. Later too, from Kanjavec summit I noticed no one on any summit. In the forest someone nicely bothered to saw through some beeches lying across the trail. But with horror I found out that in Zgornja Krma (where you turn towards Bohinj Gates) huge number of larches uprooted. Luckily the little trail's passability isn't obstructed much. Higher, below Vernarji there's also fresh rock fall, because of which I sped up my already fast walking even more. Just in that part is also the only place where you have to step on snow three times. At Vodnik I change shirts and quench thirst, and continue above Veliko polje towards Velska dolina where I walk in sun all the time. It hides only before the slope between Zob and Konec, where the ground becomes real concrete.(Bojan, sincere thanks for crampons) Less than ten minutes and crampons already off in sun at signpost. From there reach mountain summit like a flash. On the return, crampons exercise again, unfortunately Mišeljski greben already covered sun during descent via Velska dolina, golden magic of larches already gone, but fallen needles woven wonderful carpet on the trail. Since day short, didn't visit any other summit (Kanjavec Zob, Glava za žlebom), although Vernar offered itself quite, also had three quarters hour in 'reserve'.

Bravo and as always top photos. Can you share how many "elevation gains" and "distances" this tour amounts to on your GPS. Won't ask for time, because everyone knows you can switch to turbo drive..

Thanks, Milan! Strava showed me 11.8km, 1841 elevation gains and 3h33min (one way), which is net movement time in my opinion. I have had this app installed on my phone for a week and I'm still very green. Up here I don't even know how to paste the track with data. But I measured the time (from car to summit) also with a manual watch, it still shows 4:03'13 on it.

Maybe someone knows if there's a dry (partly circular) path from Planina Blato - Za Kopico - Kanjavec - valley of 7 lakes - Pl. Blato?

@brett, I think even a fleeting glance at my 17th photo tells all.

Precisely on that photo my eye stopped and made me think that I'd do it to my favorite summit. But I have no winter gear, nor does it appeal to me to crawl in snow (except flat sections) and play with health... On the photo it looks dry, but practice can be different.

Not entirely clear to me if on pic 12 it's the notch of front or rear Špranje and where Koštrun peaks are on this pic?

Thanks, you've more than halved the expected time and you're fit for the expedition to the Himalayas. At these times the rest of us can only sing „Those were the days my friend...“

Bojan, IMO Škrbina Zadnje špranje. The front one is behind Koštrunovi and not visible.
