Today two more pensioners (1.4) on this NE ridge of Kepa. The ridge is suitable for our age and abilities. We also left the car well below so there was enough walking. Little to add to Boštjan's and Tone's descriptions. The ridge itself is a real pleasure, the marked path downhill not very pleasant. I prefer soft, leaf-covered hunting paths. But the ridge really has no markings. It probably means it is smeared with red paint ad nauseam.

Regarding the suitability of the ridge for you two, I wouldn't argue. Maybe in ten years. Drago, is my observation about the threaded anchors in the rocks correct or am I wrong?

I think someone removed the hangers with nuts. Maybe the same one who smeared everything.

Two months ago it wasn't so badly painted....

On the ridge without peculiarities, if we discount the multitude of red paint blobs, arrows and lines. Enjoyable scrambling, except in the initial part. There we belayed to keep nerves calmer. Oh, since some plates on the bolts are missing, we brought our own and placed them where needed.

Nice, Janez! But the paint blobs are ugly! Good luck!

On Sunday I was wandering under Kurjeki. During ascent up the rocky gully towards the marked path below Gubni I found a blue helmet. I picked it up and left it on the bench at the starting point/parking under Erjavčev rov.

Belca and to Kepa, very long route, quite some obstacles on the road. Met two Croats on the ridge who made a good track, they were walking slower. Somewhere above the bushes found a folding pole. Went up with two ice axes. Thrilled that winter Kepa succeeded too. Descended the approach route, gave them the pole at the bottom. Walked fast to Belca, but still needed a headlamp.

Probably the path from Erjavčev is more or less dry?

On Wednesday to Kepa from Dovje direction, idea was traverse to Kresišče and down to Srednji vrh. First part went super, at the last notch 15 minutes before summit, where path from Austria joins, there was one more uncomfortable part - soft snow on rocks, and somewhat exposed. At summit one Austrian reported terrain to west (Kresišče) is demanding and he's changing plans and returning same path to Austria. After longer pondering we also decided to go by (for us) new variant to Austria. ... Some more pics

Trying to imagine how dog would manage that steepest few-meter descent on brackets on ridge, especially if snow still in play. Did it run chamois-style over, is there bypass, or did you carry it?

When I went over Gubno and on to Dovška Mala Kepa, I left my two doggies at the notch, since they couldn't go over those brackets. And they waited nicely for me at the notch, unleashed and no problems. Joy when I returned was indescribable Stoick, great to see another unleashed dog, so not the only weirdo walking mountains with loose dog My two are trained to obey in every situation, also have 100% recall, so they can move freely. Keep going and wish you many nice shared experiences

In mountains dogs must be on leashes. Example today below Planina Korošica, hope owner of unleashed dog that attacked me recognizes. No excuse for such actions, next time I'll use physical force against such regardless of consequences.

For such cases when dog is in bad mood, have half Kranjska sausage with you. With pup you'll be best friends right away.

Just asking those with unleashed dogs if they dare that also in Italy and Austria? Tiny, purely well-intentioned warning: In latter also in Croatia hunter can legally shoot your unleashed dog.

In such cases can't stay quiet. Little dog is mine, almost 11 years old, in very good shape. Goes to mountains since small and used to more demanding terrain. Just because of that and especially in winter conditions I never tie her, except if some slightly harder via ferrata when I have to hold her a bit. In winter conditions it could be dangerous for owner if tied. She was already on more than 50 two-thousanders of which more than half in Austria and Italy!

Here now ignites a very strange debate where two poles speak: one advocates 100% leash use and sees dogs as threat, other seems to advocate 0% leash use because their dog is little angel. Truth is much less black-and-white and surprises me most that those with dogs don't point it out. I'm (co-)caretaker of 2 dogs. No mountain trip where I'd say "here no need to take leash". None. Even if I judge can have dog loose some time on path, leash always at hand - preferably in palm or around shoulder. Here fixed length leashes from leather or Biothane/Hexa tape 1-3m work best (have several, choose before trip by judgment), which unlike flexi or stretchy have nice property you can drop to ground when climbing over fallen trees and obstacles and they don't get dirty or wet. Tried longer tracking leashes but quickly gave up because whole trip fiddling with un/re-winding string. How I judge exception for releasing dog too complex to describe, no need super genius to judge 99% cases when yes when no. By the way, with leash once saved dog from fall when stepped on undermined path edge and lost balance. With leash already saved escalation when another loose dog flew at mine, because can hold dog short behind you and use self as shield, prevent wilding. You can lie to yourselves that with leash can't prevent things but you're just lying. With default rule "dog in mountains on leash" I agree, depending on dog, person and surroundings how/where someone makes exception. Just make sure in those cases have leash ready to use immediately (not in backpack). Otherwise at crowded spots (this fall Zelenica, Krvavec) among hikers observe nice culture meeting opposite dog owners - if loose, leash it until we pass each other, then each on own way.
