We started from Planina Kuhinja at night and reached Krn before sunrise. The path was well lit by the moon all the time so we didn't need headlamps. There was no frost either except towards the top it started to blow a little.

The last day of the past year had to be used properly. So the decision for the ascent to Krn with good weather forecast wasn't difficult. Start from Planina Kuhinja in the dark with headlamp lighting the path. On Planina Zaslap it was no longer needed, nor gloves and hat; the body was more than warmed up. On top of Krn before 9:00 it was 0 degrees Celsius and light wind. After about ten minutes of 'meditation' and enjoyment, descent to Škrbina and from there in short sleeves back to the parking lot. On the descent I finally met quite a few hikers; the parking lot was more than decently filled on arrival. Yeah, for info, the parking lot at Kuhinja is now nicely arranged and enlarged, great addition.

On Krn winter gear is mandatory, last 3/4 hour to the top conditions are completely different (ice below) than somewhere in the middle of Krn. Windy in gusts, higher up very cold when the sun hid behind clouds, some snapshots.

Hi. Has anyone been to Krn from Planina Kuhinja these days? I plan to go Sat/Sun, so I'd be glad for some company too. Regards

On Sunday morning the conditions were pleasant... now they will probably be pleasant again on Thursday and Friday (at least according to the weather forecasts)...

I thought that due to the good conditions on Monday (2.4.2016) Korito would be skiable... Not at all!! Rocks, melted snow, warm... Despite this, once there, I descended Korito with skis: the worst trip I've ever had. The winter ascent/descent with skis season on Korito is over!

Spring at its peak in the valley, but real winter on Krn. Well, yesterday it looked like nice weather, so we agreed on Krn. In the morning everything was still nice, but in Gorica it became clear that further north it's getting cloudier. At Planina Kuhinja it was still nicely warm, but the view up showed a fog belt about 200-300m higher. And indeed, the fog persisted at the same height all the time, visibility about 10-20m. In such conditions, the direct path up proved quite challenging for orientation. Snow was there sometimes, not others, and on steep grassy slopes crampons and ice axe came in handy. On the other hand, such conditions at least spare that demoralizing view when you stare at the hut for 2 or 3 hours and it's always the same... only in the last 15min it starts to grow slowly. This time it suddenly appeared right in front of our noses, and after a few seconds it turned out to be man-made At the summit 1°C, quite strong westerlies in gusts only increased the cold. I don't have many photos, and even those don't show much, I think Darinka has more (we met on the way
