SuzanaM2. 08. 2015 19:39:17
On Friday, 31.7.2015, at 9:00 I was still heading to Nanos, at 9:40 I was sitting on the bus to Kobarid. Initially I planned to hitchhike to Drežnica or Pl. Kuhinja, but I had plenty of time until moonrise, so I set off for Krn directly from the village of Ladra (207 m a.s.l.) near Kobarid.
The friendly bus driver, who drove from Tolmin to Kobarid through villages on the right bank of Soča, directed me to the path past the quarry or sand pit.
The path to Drežnica, marked by Peace Trail posts, gently ascends through the forest on the eastern slope of Ladrski vrh and winds north above the steep bed of Ročica stream. First on poor gravel road, then trail and further on old cart track to Drežnica village, reached after good hour of leisurely walk. Arrived at fire station and turned right to chapel, where marked path to Krn starts. Instead of 4 hours, needed 5.5 hours to summit with breaks, from Ladra with breaks good 7.5 hours. In last part strength ran out, no wonder, overcame over 2,000 elevation meters. More in photo descriptions.

Path from Drežnica (541 m a.s.l.) after initial deserted start quickly to scenic pastures. Crossing last pasture wrongly turned left to gravel road from Drežnica, enjoyed beautiful views (mountain path goes right over pasture joins road at Triglav National Park sign). After Ročica stream, ascends through shady forest to grassy slopes below Kožljak. Switchbacks of old mule trail pleasant till there, ascent to saddle between Krn and Kožljak where joins path from planina Kuhinja was torturous. Despite countless valley switchbacks, glad for those to Gomišček shelter. From now path from planina Kuhinja really delightful.

No moonrise or sunset admiration, Krn summit cloud-wrapped till dark. Bit more luck with rising sun, soon hazed over. Pleasant for walking, bad for views and photos. Path over Batognica under Vrh nad Peski across Prehodce to Za Lepočami barracks. After hours easy on endless mule trail, ascent to Bogatinsko sedlo strenuous. This time less due to no sun and cold weather. Finally long descent endless switchbacks to hut at Slap Savica (653 m a.s.l.), barely caught bus to Bohinjska Bistrica then train home. Yesterday enough switchbacks for months, today would go back.

Praise friendly attentive caretakers at Gomišček shelter on Krn. Smiling, talkative, energetic, took good care of me.

From Drežnica a path winds through the forest to the rocks below Kožljak (right) and joins the path from pl. Kuhinja across grassy slopes below the saddle.1

Hello!

Is it possible to park the car higher up on the gravel road from Drežnica that the marked path from the center crosses? Thanks in advance and happy trails up there!

No designated parking noticed. Car could be left on pasture by road (pic 29), not sure owners and livestock would approve. Some parking at chapel in Drežnica, path start. Larger lot under church. From chapel to road junction over pastures about 45 min walk.

Marchy, thanks. Paths in Krn range always inspiring.

Today on Krn via Krnska Škrbina. Conditions for hiking were excellent, few visitors. Praise to the young, friendly caretakers at Gomišček shelter below Krn nasmeh

On Friday start from Bohinj over Komna, Bogatinsko sedlo, then descent to hut at Krnsko jezero. Continued to Krnska Škrbina all the way to Krn summit. Overnight at Gomišček shelter, both caretakers 10+. Morning again to Krn summit, then down to Škrbina, stairs to Batognica summit, in between to Vrh nad Peski and back via Bogatinsko sedlo to Komna. Nice demanding two-day tour, over 50km walking and quite some elevation.

Friday morning start from Lepena to Krn via Krn Lake. The trail is long but extremely beautiful and varied. Heat in the morning still quite tolerable (not in the afternoon). A little before noon at the hut (shelter), where pleasant caretakers welcomed us. Quite a lot of visitors at the summit, but most happy about the visit of the Egyptian vulture, which apparently flies all the way from Cres island and according to caretakers sometimes lands on the summit. Returned the same way, as too hot for circular tour over Peske and past the barracks.
After ten hours of hiking excellent spaghetti and refreshment await us at Dr. Klement Juga hut.
Thanks to the Lepena caretaker who welcomed us nicely.

Krn today, first time this year. In the morning the slab was frosted white. I chose the path past Leskovica pasture under red cliff, above Lužnica lake to Batognica then to Krn. I descended the southern [path] to Kuhinja pasture. To Batognica I met only one hiker. Many at summit. Afternoon started clouding. Until noon nice weather, almost cloudless.

A nice forecast invites to beautiful areas. Krn from Kuhinja pasture past Leskovec pasture under Red Cliff to Lake in Lužnica, under Peske and via Batognica to Krn. We also planned a hop to Peak above Peske, but due to threatening fogs persistently following us we skipped Peske and went only to Batognica and Krn.

We have left Peski, the valley below Peski has already been conquered by fog. Hoping the sky above us does not close completely, we hurry on.10
We also looked around the trenches a bit.11
The front line at Peski held, and the fog stopped for now on the southern slopes.12
