Little snow, but caution towards the top is still necessary.

Krn 8.3.2015.

Finally some time "for myself" on Sundaymežikanje
Snow starts at cca. 1600 m. I went up the central gully, then a bit to the right over rocks towards the notch, to the summit.
mežikanje

Returned via the marked path.

Given it's only March and Krn is 2244 m high, no point wasting words on gear.

Well-deserved beer in Kobarid.jezik

Krn yesterday:

In the last 30 minutes of the ascent put on crampons because it was icy, on the return the snow cover had already changed.

Beautiful views...

Krn today, early morning start at Planina Kuhinja. Quite windy, real spring below, some snow only above 2000m. Snow frozen, on return it crusted up and was breaking through in some places. Otherwise nicely spent day!velik nasmehvelik nasmeh

Many times, last time this year 1.3.; otherwise don't know what you want to know. Snow definitely still there, given temps it's crusty too...

Hi, has anyone been to Krn these days, what are conditions? Especially interested in Silva Korena path.

Thanks!

Does maybe someone know if someone has been there, how much snow and what the conditions are at planina Kuhinja, Lužnica, Batognica on the way to Krn? Is Korenova already bare? lp

From Planina Kuhinja it is completely bare. Batognica is not yet completely bare... Also "Korenova" was not completely bare. This is as of 30.4.2015

The path to Krn, Batognica, Lužnica is bare with some snow patches that don't pose an obstacle, as they can be bypassed.
The Silva Korena path is bare in the upper part, lower after entering the climbing part probably still snow in places.

Maybe someone knows if the Silva Korena path is passable without winter gear?

After a talk with a hiker on Krn today, the Silva Korena path should be bare from the first anchor onwards, before that still snow.

Today I went up past Krn Lake and also to Batognica. On this side still plenty of snow which does not require winter gear.

Hi
In the first week of June I plan the ascent: Lepena-Krnska Škrbina-Krn-Batogonca and back via Prehodci. Since I haven't been to that area due to the distance, I have some questions. Are snowfields only occasional or is there snow most of the way to Krnska Škrbina? What is the thickness of the snow cover and is there snow also on the more exposed parts of the path? I also have a question regarding the passage from Krn towards Batogonca. Since my better half is a bit less adrenaline-driven, I'm interested whether the path from the notch to Batogonca is really sheer and what the path from Krnska škrbina to the threshold is like, which bypasses Batogonca on the north. That path is not described in the guidebook at all. The path from Krnska škrbina to Batogonca is described as scenic and technically undemanding. If we decide on an overnight stay, do you recommend more the Gorniško zavetišče or the hut at Krn Lakes (if both are already open).
