We were there. Still not much snow, partly blown off, bare parts reach practically to the top, up top also icy, afternoon it (at least today) got pretty crusty already. Otherwise slab like slab - steep, strenuous, monotonous, can be treacherous too and requires caution. In short - conditions not ideal, but ascent was perfectly doable. Views from the top made up for every step on that endless slope...

We two yesterday from the hut at the lake to the Krn summit. Alternating drifted snow to hard windpack. We bypassed the notch with a more direct ascent with all needed gear; crampons, ice axe, ... In some places below the notch it was up to waist-deep, so the ascent took us almost 4.5 hours. How was it today, maybe info at the hut, since two had planned the summit today - we met at the lake during our descent. Good luck, BinJ

We also first tried your route, but the direct path had too little snow already and even that on top of that section was crusty flying down so we descended right before the summit back to the markers. So we nicely trod the traverse to the notch too, which is really a bit nasty and needs caution. Some tracks after you remained, some covered so we also needed almost 4.5 hours. Views on top fantastic nasmeh

I think there's no need to stress the necessity of winter gear, it's a winter ascent anyway. Let me add that yesterday another about 7 hikers went toward the summit but their tracks will probably be drifted over due to strong wind. In short, from Lepena great ascent, with full gear, proper fitness and caution. Good luck!

Who was on Krn these days from planina Kuhinja? Conditions?

I was there on 2.1., but the conditions are surely different now, at least regarding the snow cover thickness. Definitely winter gear is needed, as it was and probably still is from the shelter to the top hard and icy in places.

Today from planina Kuhinja to Krn. Though the weather was not the best, it was still worth a few 100 km by car nasmeh

Path to approx 1300m dry, then snow starts, a few cm first, from 1500m on over 10 cm, from here ice too, so crampons mandatory from here....new snow 10 cm (under ice !!)
