Ex: the bill might really wait for him, then excuses: didn't know, youth, problems, COVID, longing, lawyers engaged and similar...

What such or similar story pulls along is quite vividly described here.

It seems to me there's something seriously wrong with our approach to such challenges!

Hello!
j.
Nothing is wrong. Everyone has their wishes. Ski tourers are something special. Almost all are addicted to such walking on white in Mountains. You who don't understand it don't need to burden yourself with it. Nor others who comment what and how.
LP and good luck in Mountains!

@j. my signature. @Swiss, I can't believe what I read.... and I add this:

Dear mountain rescuers! Please nicely, for your safety and out of love for your families and all you care about... no need to understand such models - addicts to walking on white in mountains. Even more. Don't burden yourselves with them, don't comment what and how and put their calls on "ignore".

To everyone I wish LP and lots of common sense in tour planning and good luck in mountains!

pohodnik11, your appeal to mountain rescuers shows you understand very little about hills in "non-ideal" conditions - i.e. most of the year - and nothing about addiction to mountains.
Mountain rescuers are the cream of mountain addicts.

Haha, @SamoK, you have no idea how much I know about hills in "non-ideal conditions" and mountain addiction... and you two with @gandi... you don't want to one day call "armchair experts" for help... you know... karma, and that... something like JJ on Golnik... you know because you read and watch POP TV...

pohodnik11, don't pay attention to my words about couch experts and grs-guys. I didn't mention the latter anywhere and I appreciate and support their work and effort.
But you're a typical example of the aforementioned experts, as I see you really know everything and stick your nose everywhere. Simply, you're more papal than the pope...

Brane, you obviously think you know a lot about me and your argumentation is really top-notch!big grin Because the guy rescued on Krn is an addict, everything is forgiven! Interesting, what would speed addicts say about this, whom the police fines. And even more interesting: when such an addict thinks he's losing the game and calls mom for help, he's rescued by the others, from the "cream" of addicts. But look: those others aren't real addicts, as they post warnings and even pleas through all channels not to go to the high mountains in days after snowfall and third and locally fourth avalanche danger level.

In Austria, for example, the helicopter wouldn't even take off if the caller doesn't prove he's insured. The lame excuse that he's an addict doesn't help there. Pay! Here, irresponsible fools are unlimitedly protected and their backs are covered. Mainly on the shoulders of (valuable) volunteer rescuers, their families and employers, and of course all of us who contribute to equipment, helicopters and medical care for addicts! Something is seriously wrong!

You have no clue about anything!

Sad that a country is mentioned as ideal where human life should be conditioned by money. (I don't know the situation in Austria, but I actually don't believe it's as described above.)
I don't understand dispatchers who would ignore an emergency call to save a few euros on their bank account.
The comparison with traffic doesn't hold. Those maniacs are chased more for the safety of others, not themselves.

Good example of what happens if you're not insured is on the following link (Air Zermatt) from 12:35 onwards:

Normal. But that "the helicopter wouldn't even take off" is of course incitement. And it gives me chills that someone can wish for that.

Helicopter in Austria flies 100%... if you're not insured, you just get the bill, very simple.

Even such heroes who meet Fear in the middle of the mountain and call for help put rescuers in danger. So it's not that different from the road. Of course, the action starts, the person is helped, but let the "addict's" stupidity be self-paying (or "casco" insurance). big grin

What an individual pays in a certain social system, and what society pays, is a matter of social agreement.
In the USA everyone pays almost everything, in Europe a bit less, sometimes almost everything is free, covered by taxes.
Equally logical would be to charge treatment to people who smoke, drink too much alcohol or are overweight due to bad diet. A few years ago this was considered in Europe, but nothing came of it.
I don't know why such a fuss against a couple of unfortunates in the mountains.
It must also be emphasized that mountain rescuers never complain, they just warn, which is nice and right.
Couch mountaineers complain, who have never been in danger.

j. and like-minded, now quite seriously: would you help a 'daredevil' who walks on the bridge railing, slips and falls into the water, out of the water or not? Probably not, if he didn't have insurance, right?
Eh, that's where we differ.
