Yesterday I wandered around there but didn't go to Batognica. All northern slopes are fully covered with snow and it'll stay that way for quite some time, not to mention Lužnica valley. Before the fog covered everything, from the ascent from the lake upwards Vrh nad Peski was visible.
What was on Batognica was no longer visible afterwards, as fog enveloped everything...1

Darinka, thanks for the post. It inspired me. nasmeh Yesterday we also went for the first time from Drežnica to Krn. Road to Drežnica really pleasant, asphalted, village amazingly beautiful. Views of the Krn range at the start a bit obscured in upper parts. During the morning visibility into the distance blurred, but path very nice and not strenuous despite considerable height difference. Except one unproblematic snowfield, over which just a few steps are made, to the summit completely dry. Lots of flowers along the path, mainly gentians and auricles.
From the hut onwards in cloud. At the top we waited quite a while hoping for some clearing and got a bit of it. It was warm and windless. Initially alone, enjoying the peace, then three more hikers arrived and that was all.
Safe travels to all. nasmeh

From Planina Kuhinja completely dry. Snowfields towards the saddle and over Batognica as well as from Prag down and entire Lužnica valley pose no obstacles. Road from Vrsno gore normally drivable on weekends, on weekdays time restrictions apply as posted.

To Krn on 16.6 first time this year from Drežnica via the steep secured Silva Korena path.
Despite warm days, still had to cross two snowfields. One right at the start of the wall, second on the ledge.

The path, despite large amounts of snow, is still in good condition; saw 2-3 pulled-out pegs that do not increase the danger on the path.

But still not the first on this path this year, based on the signature in the book velik nasmeh

26.6.2021. Via climbing path Silva Korena. We weren't early either. Started hiking from Drežnica only at 8. And in shade all the way to top. Day quite interesting. Sky full of clouds. Some dark ones too. But no rain. Snowfield quite extensive before entry to climbing part. Put on winter gear and crossed safely. Not pleasant feeling when you see crampons not gripping on snow. Further to top all dry. Not many hikers. At least that's what young hut keeper said. It's open. At top we were alone. With nice views. Only Triglav hidden under clouds. Descended circular to Drežnica via marked path.

Today first time on this beauty. Originally planned circular: pl. Kuhinja - Krn - Batognica - Vrh nad Peski - Lužnica - pl. Kuhinja, but morning and forenoon changeable weather made views from Krn poor all directions except W (Soča valley), so headed straight back down as visibility occasionally ~10m.

But when at 13h soaking feet in Soča looking at Krn, noticed weather improved... probably should have stayed up longer zadrega.
On other hand now more reason to revisit these remote parts.

Path otherwise fine, dry of course, judging by sight towards Batognica summit and Vrh nad Peski still some small snowfields. Don't know about to Lužnica.
Up there... Krn is the left one1

Pretty please, if anyone goes to Krn from Krn Lakes these days, let us know the actual conditions on that path, I see there are still quite a few snow patches. I'll call the hut on Friday too.
We have a reservation there for next weekend, this Krn has been eluding us for years ... We were both up there a few years ago, but not together. mežikanje
Thanks!

I was there on Saturday. There's still a lot of snow in the gully, the first bigger snow patch starts right above the lake, but it can be crossed without problems, didn't sink in too much either. Given the high temperatures this week, the snow will probably be mostly gone by next weekend.

Does anyone know the current conditions on the path from the mountain hut at Krn Lakes, over Prehodce, past the monument and over Prag towards Krn? Is the path safely passable without winter gear? Thanks, P.

I can tell you about conditions from Krn to the monument below Vrh na Peskih. On Saturday there were some snow patches that were passable without winter gear. For the rest I don't know.

Just reporting. We made it to Krn, yay! velik nasmeh
This weekend we stayed at the Hut at Krn Lakes.

First day we went from Lepena (parking at the Hut already full before 9am) to Velika Baba, which is really worth the effort if you're in the area. Most people just go to the lake and hut. Some visitors to Velika Baba, but most of the way we were alone, smaller non-problematic snow patches below, flowers in abundance. Views of the hut, Krn Lake, Krn and other peaks wonderful. Evening we spent by Krn Lake when we had it to ourselves, crowds had left. nasmeh

Second day we were earlier (from the kitchen at the Hut, which opens only at 7am zmeden) and boldly continued towards Krn. We crossed several larger snow patches, snow will last a while, but it was soft, just watch the markers so you don't miss the path. We had microspikes with us, but no need. Flowers again in abundance, clouds and fog coming in, I feared we'd have the summit in mist again, but Krn summit stayed clear for us too and granted us views this time, hooray! nasmeh Lots of visitors at the top, all Primorci and us two Gorenjci ...

To the shelter and on to Batognica, along the ridge to Prag and to the monument at Peski, dry. From the monument towards Prehodce there's more snow patches at the start, similar to towards Krn, but non-problematic, watch the markers and path course, snow is soft and that saves some scree walking. From Prehodce back towards the Hut at Krn Lakes, dark clouds threatening over Trenta and Krn all the time, even thunder, but first drops fell only right before the Hut, we were really lucky. During break and snack at the Hut the rain stopped and we just descended to Lepena, sun came out again. Only a long winding drive home awaited us ...

New boots and backpack passed the test excellently, and so did we. velik nasmeh In short, we spent a wonderful weekend in the wonderful Krn mountain range!
