Krofička (2083m)

Print
pohodnik3817. 09. 2011 21:44:46
Today I did the ascent to Krofička, starting point in the most beautiful valley in Slovenia that is Logarska in front of the Mountaineers' Hut. First to the hut at Klemenča Jama and then to the summit of Krofička. The trail in the upper part is not as easy as someone might think because the mountain has 2083 elevation meters, so the trail is not suitable for beginners. It is secured at key spots, however an extra peg to hold on wouldn't hurt, namely on the trail there's a lot of scree which is especially annoying on descent (danger of slipping) especially in the upper part below the summit. I would also warn about the torn-out peg that holds the cable. At the summit I had pleasant company from a middle-aged man and we chatted for a solid hour in pleasant conversation. Then descent to the trail junction where the path to Strelovec branches off, not far aside. Views rather so-so as clouds quite covered the surrounding peaks. I planned to continue to Icmanova planina and then descend to Plesnik in Logarska but I didn't find the path (no markers), otherwise the markers on Strelovec are renewed. So that part of the trail remains for next time. It was very nice even though in the afternoon clouds quite covered the central peaks of Kamnik Alps. With Krofička I finished the central chain of the highest peaks in Kamnik Alps (all conquered), now I know where the best views and most pleasant trails are, see younasmeh

Today I chose Krofička, start still in the dark. For a third of the path G. kept me company, thanks for the tips. The path was quite wet, slippery rocks and roots, as fog was just rising. At the top in three hours. Up there sun and warm wind with smell of dwarf pines. Views were changing, surrounding peaks sinking into fog and clouds. Descent was harder than ascent (and not because of the peg...). Nice tour as overture to autumn.

Nothing special to expect, like frozen trail and icy rocks - at least it was like that on 10.11.2011.

@robi14, Krofička is practically all dry, including the ridge, definitely the north side will be frozen, I was up there on Saturday, but not on the normal route from Klemenča, but traversed the entire south slope from Strelovec to Škrbina, then to the top and back along the ridge. For early morning conditions check Strelovec pics from Pike on the link geppo gave you. No winter gear needed.

The trail is mostly dry, only in the upper part there's still some snow that's quite icy, and it's better to bypass it. Up top it's sunny, super considering we're in fog in the valley.

On 27.11.2011 we went to Krofička via the hunter's path, more pathless. A little trouble before the entry to the path under Škrbina, we weren't sure of the entry. Then, after ascent on the hanging chains, we went diagonally across the slope to the saddle past the summit of Krofička, then directly to the summit with a little scrambling and above the last dwarf pines to the right to the summit. No snow anywhere, but the marked path was icy and snowy on descent. The ascent is very interesting, not for ascent in fog and beginners, with rare pegs we didn't help ourselves much, weather fantastic - short sleeves, photos on WWW.pdmaticams-drustvo.si.

Today ascent to Krofička done. On descent visited also Strelovec, to valley (unfortunately) via marked path over planina Plesnik. Unfortunately because path from somewhere at planina height dug up by boars and hard to follow. When you spot it leads through scrub and forest viewless to Logarska dolina. In my opinion better path under Rkljeva peč. Somewhat exposed but still.

At the junction, hut at Klemenča jama, past the larch to Krofička. First time and I was impressed by the nicely laid out marked trail. To the Strelovec junction the path is very pleasant and well laid out, further it's wet and dangerous for slipping. Towards the summit a bit more climbing. At the top a nice girl joined us, we chatted a little and back to the valley. Views from the top wonderful. Recommend!

Rainy morning and our agreed decision Krofička. Most of the path to the top rained on us, needed a bit more care due to slippery rocks, met only chamois keeping us company as if saying "Just up...". No views on top just cold wind, so quickly changed and back to valley. On descent rain stopped and magnificent view on neighboring peaks opened - real balm for my soul. Still larch visit, tea at Klemenča jama and to valley new challenges ahead. Mountains beautiful in any weather - all in our head.

Yesterday we set off on a hike towards Krofička. Towards the top still some snow, problem is one steep scree that's snowy and needs crossing, so still recommend winter gear. Good luck!

My one is more of the sleepy kind and that's why peaks with more distant starting points, except for a couple of exceptions, haven't come up yet. Since now, due to objective reasons, I'm pretty much wandering alone on serious mountains, I decided to visit something more distant for me... But since I don't feel like driving too far either, I prefer walking, so I decided that before I go lounging on the sea, I'll tire myself out a bit more concretely and, since I'll be in those areas anyway, visit one more peak than would be somehow normal.

So I make a plan: first to Krofička, then to Velika and Mala Raduha.

So, first Krofička. Start from Dom planincev, of course past the hut at Klemenča jama up and down. Path without features, well, up near the summit at that second anchor one carrier bolt has come loose and it's quite loose, but no problem. Early hour proved excellent, up and down walking in the shade and pleasant cool... The path itself mostly goes through forest and doesn't offer special views, but when we get out of the forest, they start. And then, when we step on the summit and if the weather is like today.... the whole world is visible wink. Every step is rewarded... Unfortunately, there were so many flies or gnats on the summit (really, not just two or three buzzing around, but a whole swarm), crawling into eyes, nose, ears... The rascals are to blame that I didn't enjoy the views longer at first and after drinking my beer, I quickly headed back down....

And as said before.. into the car and towards Bukovnik farm in Podolševa... more about that there where it fits.
No comment.... :-)1

I always like returning to Krofička, as it never disappoints. Whether via the marked path over Puklovec or the hunting path over Škrbina, you rarely meet any hikers. Today it was the same, as we didn't meet anyone on the way to the summit. Krofička is also an excellent choice for hot days when despite the temperature you can't stay home. The path is in the shade all morning and is really pleasant for walking. Today I even got a bit chilly at times, as there was quite a strong wind blowing. The path from Dom planincev over Puklovec was without features today (if you don't count the excellent viewssmile

Yesterday 21.8. I headed to Krofička via the hunting path. Since I have vacation this week, I have to go to the mountains and hills, and so it was. I prefer walking alone because I trust myself the most. For the path I chose the hunting path to Krofička. Start at Dom Planincev in Logarska dolina a bit later than usual. I didn't see any hikers in the morning which I really enjoyed. Path to Klemenča jama passes quickly and without features. I turn towards Ojstrica and Škarije, higher towards Kopinškova pot. The path required a lot of caution as it was very wet from yesterday's rain, so wet up to kneesbiggrin A bit below Škrbina I turn right at the cairn-almost missed itredface Noticed a herd of chamois grazing under the walls of Krofička. I go towards the piled gully where I prepare and up along the wall. Higher at the marker then to the ledge right. Very carefully as there's lots of scree scattered on rocks (of course everywhere), higher wire for very steep ascent. When I reach up, need to turn left again to continue along the ridge up, very exposed, wire for hold more loose, occasionally help with bushes. Soon I'm at the part mentioned here as the steepest (10m vertically up) torn bolt holding the wire, personally didn't seem so scary demanding, quickly over it and already standing on the vast green slopes of Krofička on the south side staring into Robanov kot. Light NE breeze blowing. I cut transversely across grasses towards the right tower where the summit of Krofička is. While walking I notice two cairns, path not very visible, appears only when there's some scree. I reach steeper slope where I imagine direction and chop along bushes through passages towards the top. So many gentians as here nowhere else seen. Higher I find myself before rock slabs, turn right into bushes where tricky two paths appear, lower one is right. Along wall and bushes around corner descend a bit lower, then over gully full of scree to more compact rocks and towards ridge. View of Logarska dolina opens. A few more steps left and I'm at the summit. Alone, do formalities, enjoy views, snack. Get company of two hikers who came to summit via marked path. Chat a bit about nearby peaks and paths to them. Follows descent via marked to hut at Klemenča jama, slowly as everything still wet. Stop, cold drink and return to valley to start. Very nice tour, good that it was a bit more demanding as that's what I needed since long time not.... Nice vacation day smile More from path in video as always and on blog about impressions and events on path.
