Kukova špica

Parkeljc17. 06. 2013 16:19:53
Since today I messed up again zadrega at the junction from the path to Kukova, attaching pic where I marked "A" ascent over scree or talus and "B" over grassy-rocky gully.
Cairn in my opinion stands wrong, someone placed it but obviously didn't know real path is ca 30m ahead. Of course I fell for it too, turned right up scree, descended the nice path. Should have done the opposite.
At top of scree both paths join and continue on mostly well visible path.
Recommend ascent B, descent A.
Photo confirms it anyway.
Snow patches still quite a lot but mostly avoidable. Crampons and ice axe stayed in backpack.
Unfortunately too late start, fog first on summit, so no photos.
towards Kukova..1

My post referred only to the single route description to KŠ on this site (via Gulce) to make it easier for those walking there for the first time or very rarely.
Anyway, option "C" isn't the last one that gets you to the top of Kuk's Peak, but one could add at least "D and E" mežikanje

On Tuesday after Triglav I treated myself to Kuk's Peak too, path without peculiarities, had to cross just a few snowfields (nothing exposed or dangerous), maybe required a bit more caution only that centimeter or two of fresh snow on grass in the summit part.
...but it was cold, that's for sure nasmeh .

Kuk's Peak evaded me for a long time, it just wouldn't come up. Today I finally head up there. Already in the forest fog surprises me and accompanies me all the way. It cleared a bit at times, but soon closed again. On the scree below the saddle Čez Gulce it once closed so densely that I almost gave up eek I stop in that black fog, if it doesn't clear in 5 to 10 minutes I decided to go back. It really started opening slowly, I get motivated again and hurry towards the summit of Kuk's Peak jezik
The summit already had one visitor waiting for views nasmeh It turned into a nice day, and I sit long on the panoramic and warm summit mežikanje
Good luck everyone.

Yesterday on KŠ. Weather ideal, not too hot, and no one on the path except me, alone like a ghost. The scree killed me though, so I didn't do Škrnatarica and DK as planned. Down the scree express descent, a bit of skiing and sliding. Path demanding fitness-wise, especially upper part over scree. And some pics ...
Start of the path, before it turns into the forest.1
Gulce saddle.2
Before the top of Črlovec glade you need to turn across the glade to the left side ... there is a possible path in the forest that needs crossing.3

Here a pathlet misled me, so I went up the scree, should have gone 100 m further then up, better option.5
Towards the saddle, no path ...6

Today after a week on the second peak, this time Kuk's Peak. Start of course from parking at the road bend at the end of the torrent debris Spodnji Črlovec. Path goes for a good hour zigzagging through forest, of course can choose left variant at forest start, steep and above the gully debris, then also shortcuts through forest. After two hours at traverse path and go straight up scree or use path left behind scree going up past it. Scree doesn't end, walk somehow along right edge of screes - on paths. After barely four hours at saddle Čez Gulce and ahead only ascent to mountain on crumbly terrain. Summit extremely panoramic. Has box with book for entries, no stamp.
Parking lot at the road bend - above ends the torrent debris flow Spodnji Črlovec.1
Triglav today a little after seven in the morning.2
Scree above the transverse path - we take about two hours to get here.3
Over the jump. It didn't seem like a jump to me.4
We walk across wide scree slopes.5
Observer on the path.6
Towards the saddle Čez Gulce.7
Kukova špica - up there we have to go.8
This is how we scramble over this rocky terrain.9
Towards the summit.10
Summit of Kukova špica - 2427m.11
Box with the summit logbook.12
The so-called amphitheater started on the left by Škrnatarica. Dovški Križ should continue it and Široka peč end it. I think behind Križ are Oltar and both Ponce, then Špik.13
Views from the summit are superb - Špik with a visitor.14
Now also the three little roses ture - now below reigns the stemless gentian.15
Above the forest line grows the cup gentian.16
In the forest, however, it's the season for the silky false hellebore or svinjaka.17

Nice morning at path start promised nice trip, unfortunately that promising stayed up to 1800m, higher weather held till ten and a bit over.
Later a cloud got stuck right behind Kuk's Peak and wouldn't come off so I persisted under Škrnatarica wall waiting for the amphitheater to open but I think in the wind slowly rising I heard a voice, you missed it just by one hour, show is over come another time.
After hour waiting for nice views and memories I slowly dragged down screes to warm sunny valley.
Conditions on path best shown by pics I'm attaching.velik nasmeh

Nice cloudless morning awaited me in Vrata. Park before barrier, then another hundred meters on road and left into forest. Path barely visible but here avoid nasty start of path on scree. To crossing over Črlovec path without peculiarities. Snowfield in gully crossable without crampons, same two smaller further. Snow starts right when turn right off path. It's packed and holds my weight well. To saddle Gulce already some dry sections. Skier behind me went in my steps without crampons. I took them off a bit above saddle and climbed dry ridge to summit. Bad luck, fog awaited at summit so quickly descended. Returned in cloudy weather but all way could see sunlit valley behind Cmir. Next time more sun.

On Saturday morning over Črlovec. Crust to the top of scree, then obligatory morning fog to Gulc. Ice axe and crampons are useful if you don't want to go over scree.
Express descent and via PP to Poldov rovta

Hi,

has anyone been up there recently? Is there still any snow on the trail?

There might still be some snow in the gully when crossing Črlovec (easy), higher up the trail is dry.
