Morning: relatively good. Afternoon: thunderstorms expected. At 9.00 it's absolutely too late. You should start at least at 6am, and after 9-10am already be back.

Yesterday to Mangart up the Slovenian route and down the Italian. Summit of course quite crowded. Great caution needed on the Slovenian, as there's quite a bit of scree on the path, rocks smooth and wet in places. Also planned MM via Hanzova, but light rain on Vršič, so we didn't head to the top.

We had the same intentions; like you, I was on Mangart via the Slovenian route on the 30th, then on MM on the 31st...

From the saddle down to the entrance of Via Italiana, then up, no issues, continuation via Slovenian to the top, nothing special and via Italian back down to the saddle. Short and sweet, as Mateja said.

Hello, from Podbele (Nadiža) we would go to Mangart... which route and how to get to it is more suitable. Slovenian or Italian?? Difficulty?? Conditions? Thanks

I was on Mangart a couple days ago; conditions are (for now) ok! Up via Slovenian, down via Italian... Italian is much easier. LP

Tomorrow or on Thursday we would go to Mangart. But I don't know, because today snow is forecasted, otherwise tomorrow sun, on Thursday it's supposed to be rain. How reliable are the forecasts here? We haven't been to Mangart yet, would go the Italian way, because not very experienced and brave hikers. Any advice for us? Thanks

Lora: according to the latest forecast, Wednesday and Thursday stable weather... my advice is if not very experienced, gather experience and in a couple of years climb Mangart on the "real" path, namely from Fusine Lakes via italiana to saddle, then Slovenian to top. This Julian peak hordes of hikers drive to saddle then casually to 1.5h away top have completely taken away the honor. If you want to experience the mountain in full glory, start at Fusine Lakes, and if you want to avoid climbing, ascend the normal hiking path to saddle (from Italian direction). Otherwise yes, from saddle, Italian path somewhat easier than Slovenian.

Thanks. For Thursday we'll choose path from saddle, next time definitely start from Fusine Lakes on real path. Hope it goes well to top. Some hills we've already visited, even Kredarica from Rudno polje... Is the path more demanding than to Kredarica?

Hard to compare this, from Rudno polje to Kredarica I haven't gone yet, definitely fitness-wise path to Kredarica more demanding because much longer and bigger elevation gain. Path to Mangart from Mangart saddle quite short, but can be technically demanding for inexperienced at some spots as need to use hands too, help are pegs and cables. Via ferrata kit certainly welcome, especially if decide for Slovenian path from saddle. I'm also going Thursday to Mangart, so maybe see you up there. Good luck

I think Mangart will be summited on Sunday, at least according to the forecasts.. I see that maybe from the Belopeška Lakes there's a nicer and safer?? path than from the saddle along the Italian path. Am I wrong??

nadka, it's nicer for sure and also quite a bit longer, but you first reach the saddle..., then continue Slovenian or Italian.

Also from Loška Koritnica it's nice, you can go over Jačke, under Rob above Zagače, over Rob above Zagače, then a little combination with Slovenian or Italian to the top.
