Hello, is the road to Mangartsko sedlo open? Can I go there by car?

Yes, you can. The road is open. On the Italian side there is still some snow. See the picture from 18.8.2014 by lakkon.

but that snow is not a problem if you go a bit to the right of it and then up... but if you want to try that snow: in the morning and before the sun gets there, there was still ice and it was dangerous without winter equipment...

The snow hindering approach or return has cleared. But ski touring with skins is still possible. velik nasmeh

For warm-up via Slovenian to Mangart summit. Path bp, only snow patch persisting on path doesn't hinder ascent, marked path bypasses it. Descended via Italian route, many climbers ascending it today. Below Travnik followed path down to Bivacco Nogara then up ferrata Via Italiana. Little above ferrata start met four Czech lads, no helmets, no kit, bad shoes. After talk advised against continuing, they listened. Via Italiana also bp except one loose piton. Cable there very slack and dangerous for many.

What's the current snow situation on Mangart? Up to what height has snow fallen this week? Thanks..

Snow starts at cca 2300m, on the top a good meter, if not more. Markings invisible, in fog conditions not at all friendly. Lp
