I don't know the conditions on Via Italiana, there's no snow on the Slovenian route and gear, if you meant winter, not needed. Anyway, helmet and via ferrata set recommended.

Today up Mangart via Via Italiana and Italian, down Slovenian..all paths perfect, winter gear not needed, rest you know!

Less walking, more driving. Mangart up Slovenian, down Italian. Way back stop at Rabelj Lake. Super. We early, on return many heading up.

On Sunday 5.10 I park behind the larger arched bridge and continue by bike on the road to Mangart saddle. I leave the bike at the saddle and head to the top of Mangart via Slovenian route. Weather was excellent, no crowds early in the morning. I descend via Italian route back to saddle... followed by a nice descent to the car nasmeh

At Mangart (Belopeška) lakes friends threw us out of the car on Sunday morning with all luggage "threw", so we took the path under our feet... to Nogara bivouac and under the wall. Then slowly towards the saddle on nicely secured path, luckily leeward and with views. When we had climbed the wall, we decided only for descent to the car, where the driver was waiting for us all frozen to the bones. Summit was unfortunately in fog, so we'll visit it next time... sometimenasmeh

Today Mangart was very visited. During our ascent the weather was excellent. Nice views, sun, warm. Slovenian path nicely secured, back via Italian. Nice day, really. Autumn is generous this time with mountain outings. Good luck!

Mashyms, I'm glad the photo succeeded! For me Mangart was just some consolation, because I couldn't do some other planned tour. Good luck!

Hi,
I went today from Mangart Lakes past bivouac Nogara and via Via Italiana. On the approach to the wall it's locally a bit slippery and black ice, so crampons and ice axe are highly recommended. The wall is snowy and cables in some places under snow or ice.
The road at Mangart Saddle looks dry and I noticed a cyclist on it, so I think no problems by car to the saddle.

Igor, joking is great, but someone might misunderstand ;-) Snow can be drifted very locally and with this first snow there aren't exactly whole slopes of drifted snow and therefore no avalanche danger, but smaller drifted areas.
