The secured mountain path is really excellent, but the technical team of PZS markacists deserves credit for that.

I was up there on Friday. Quite a big crowd up there. The Italian path is especially a pilgrimage path. Up via the Slovenian path, down via the Italian. Protections on the Slovenian path flawless and in excellent condition, lots of rocks on the path. View solid. The Italian path has neither a speck of snow nor any under the wall; I saw only one small lump in one holenasmeh. Otherwise real tourism, especially in the early afternoon. Road to the saddle officially closed due to collapse, but that doesn't stop some people even at the price of a flat tire.

Loška Koritnica - Mangart

On hot days Loška Koritnica is tucked under cold steep walls all from Mangart to Jalovec, the latter also quite late allows the sun to shine into it. Lower part up to entry into steep slopes of Mali Koritniški Mangart without major features.
In that harder part of steep slopes I entered in shade, where morning dew caused me the most trouble, especially on a couple of unsecured sections crossing damp soil and scree. Then it became easier and Huda škrbina is also very well secured.
Steep grass slopes were dry and presented no problems, but in wet conditions it could be completely different...
Path very nicely marked, just right in key sections where needed (being a bit of a trail follower at times is a pleasant thrill) and cables in excellent condition.

What better than first time walking completely alone on such a solitary and beautifully laid path, full of magnificent views... to fall in love nasmeh
At the top a crowd, which after all experienced on the path cannot spoil the mood at the goal.
Salute to Mangart and thanks to the one who enthused me for this path nasmeh

Yes, Maemi, often we can really be grateful to the one who gave us the idea that took us over! Feelings can also be like you expressed... completely dazed from all new and beautiful. And gratitude is really in place here. I see that Mangart has enthused you already many times!

Yesterday on Mangart. In the morning it still looked sunny, but fog crept in quickly and held till the top. Strong wind on the saddle. In short, first descended to Bivacco Nogara, then up Via Italiana and Slovenski to the summit. Descent via Italian path. Top tour.

Does anyone have info on the condition of Slovenian and Italian paths? How's the snow and ice? Normally hikeable without crampons? Still any snow up there?

Thanks and best regards.

dkecma01 just back from summit, situation as follows. Snow on Slovenian route, only wet shoes and slippery rock cause trouble. Italian well supplied with snow and more demanding as it's trodden and icy. No pics unfortunately no computer.

Yesterday on Mangart from Belopeška Lakes. Report follows.

Path condition to Bivacco Nogara: After junction with path branching to Alpe Vecchia or Zacchija, some orientation issues due to avalanche already before fixed ropes. There some easy climbing (-I), fixed ropes ok.

After fixed ropes we reach area where avalanche literally took part of path. Orientation very poor there. After last fixed rope path turns up then right, but due to collapsed marks not noticeable. Current orientation is some bush on right side of slide, next to which marked path goes, not visible from slide. If miss it, cairns still point straight. At last one when no more visible, go right on faint path where another cairn stands (mine mežikanje ) then at next cairn catch marked path again.

On Slovenian fixed ropes except two non-critical spots ok, likewise on Italian normal route.

If anyone has a photo, best if taken from Jalovec direction towards Mangart. South slope or from Bivacco Busettini onwards. Info would come in handy if there's still any white left.

thanks

From the saddle onwards a little snow to the path fork (Italian-Slovene), then most of the path snow-covered, winter gear needed. Up to the traverse a distinct track, further only a few tracks and those above the path, so stuck to marked path with some wind-blown snow on hard base. Above turn-off to Huda Škrbina even a section of bare path, then again nicely snow-covered to the summit.

That was it, how it will be after Thursday we'll see, not much snow expected.
