Nice autumn afternoon lured us to the saddle. I head to the top via the Slovenian route while the other members check out the beauties around little Mangart. Already from the saddle I see some turning back in the snow - without crampons it wasn't safe. Approach from the "gate" past the cables and then straight to the top. For descent I pick the winter route but due to lack of snow turn back to the top and via the Italian route back. Short break at the saddle then past the old hut via shortcuts to the pasture and past the lake home.

here they turned back which is already very late if no proper equipment

Can you get to the saddle with a personal car or not?

Check one topic back. We were on foot from the barrier, some made it even to the saddle.

View towards Mangart yesterday, if anyone plans an ascent, both routes have snow patches.

Via Italiana is dry; at least the view from the bivouac suggests so.

Mlinč - mang. pasture - hut - mang. saddle - summit. Little snow over pasture, then more or less dry. Below MRM put on crampons, which I remove a bit higher and put on again before Italian traverse.

Descend via Mesnovka.

The snow that there is has stayed hard all day, windblown, sometimes icy, mainly too dry for this time.

Yesterday 20.12 we headed to Mangart. Up Slovenian route and down Italian route. Road icy in some places. Saw personal cars parked a bit before last tunnel. Slovenian path has some snow patches to cross. Italian path quite a bit more snowy.

M&T, did you maybe notice a woolen Mammut jacket somewhere on the path? Sister lost it some time ago...

When I was up there, there were two Austrians ahead of me, I knew about the loss from the forum, and also via our member grs, unfortunately I found nothing, about which the owner was already informed.

From Mlinč to the turn-off for the marked footpath, one had to carry the skis. In between, also twice remove them when crossing the stream and at the saddle, then all the way to the junction for the Italian route enough snow. Here I leave the skis for later descent, on foot continue straight up and left to the exit variant. Then followed just a walk along the ridge. Return along the ridge then extreme left into the northern gully and to the skis. Snow hard to Mesnovka then just pure slush.

Today with Nika Radjenovič:
On Plaz hard, littered with mines. Path along ridge partly bare, but walking on grass is faster anyway. We went through Žleb (one of Winter variants, marked 5e). Žleb not skiable, too little snow sadly and jump in narrow part (not easy). Continued on classic Winter to summit, skied first on Winter then Italian. Classic Winter skiable if bash a bit between rocks in lower part.

Snow mostly hard, in sheltered spots some cm of fresh snow. Rest windblown - today gusts were quite over 50 km/h...

Skied to parking.

Other routes mostly very poorly made...
