StyLa! via the Italian path there are three snowfields, but it goes without problems. I recommend trekking poles, because with them the snowfields are much easier to cross.

Uf...if the snow doesn't lie flat on the plain or under a very small angle, poles are of course NOT recommended.
Well, unless you use them in a completely different way (not each in its hand with strap around palm but both hold with both hands at once, like some improvised ice axe substitute).

Hi, can anyone tell what the conditions on Mangart are like? Has any new snow fallen today? How do you think it will be passable on Saturday via the Italian route? Thanks for help.

Today I set off with Sandi to Mangart, since he hasn't been yet, and he asked me to go together. Already early from LJ., so that we would start hiking by sunrise. At the saddle it was blowing strongly, which fortunately calmed down later, but it was cold around 0°C. So we had pleasant conditions regarding the wind to the summit. On the Slovenian path there is no snowfield anymore, via Italia has three snowfields, two can be bypassed, one has to be crossed. I met six hikers on the return, and many cyclists. Oh and NO snow on the road nasmeh
That the cap was full, and also to the ferrata in Mojstrana.

Todi, thanks for the information.

One more question, can you drive the road to the end (to the Saddle)?? I read it's closed before the end (3km). Going for the first time and wondering how much time it takes from the parking lot to the Saddle?

thanks and good luck!

You guys are really good! If I see correctly, cars are up to the top of the saddle, where the road turns around in picture 34. Does that mean you can drive past the landslide on the road further from the upper parking? Or is it different? zmeden

From Loška Koritnica past the hunting hut and along the unmarked mule track under Zagače, then along the lower path and over Huda škrbina to the summit. Two who came via Via della Vita said that at the beginning of that path the cable is torn and that it's quite tricky for the less skilled (the rope that was there last year isn't this year).

I descended via the Italian to the saddle, then under Jarečica and further under Rdeča skala and over Jačkov back to Loška Koritnica.

Also met Dejan, who with his friend did at least three of my tours.

We catch the first sun rays at the saddle at the fork of the Italian and Slovenian paths. We're early and first in the wall of the Slovenian path and for a long time the only ones. The summit was also deserted, we met the first hikers when we were already descending the Italian route for about half an hour. At the saddle though "tin cans", almost no space left.
Weather nice, clear, quite strong wind at the top, path without features. Maybe info for sheep cheese lovers. The cheese dairy at Mangart pasture is closed this year, no sheep seen on pastures, except one single black one at the saddle.

We also went by Legenda's paths, but we started at 10am. For us the path was quite demanding, the Slovenian route somewhat reminds me of Tominšek's path, or also the path to Mali Triglav from Kredarica, but it's much longer. The wind calmed down in the middle of the day, the view over the entire horizon circle was exceptional, everything was as plain as the palm of one's hand.
The descent path via Italian route is easier than I expected.
What really surprises me is the number of people, especially foreigners, visiting our mountains. Often they are the worst equipped. Even a "mountaineer" in flip-flops was seen.
We also saw the black sheep that Legenda mentions nasmeh
In the hut at the saddle we ate barley soup with sausage and pasta, both excellent and not too expensive.
One more thing, on the way to Mangart saddle you have to pay 5€ ecological fee. I support it! Especially when even on Monday so many cars gather that not all can park even on the ample parking areas.
