@BojanA: I think this clearing is like a natural barrier of the pasture, so it's nicely delimited... Igor will surely say more precisely, maybe I'm wrong too...zadrega

As for these numbers: I find it nice and worthy of respect that some of you record ascents and keep some kind of mountaineering "diary". Best!

Sadly I really don't know what that "drevored" means, I'll ask around, since I have a friend in Fusine, or Alessio, please explain. I was again at Mangrt saddle today, some pics. As for numbers, really totally unimportant for some, for me yes.
My path always goes past the tunnels, but today I had to go into one (3rd).1

Mangart - Mangart Saddle - Mangart Hut - Mangart Lakes - Mangart Road. In Slovenian it's Mangrt (also on the stamp at the top it's Mangrt)mežikanjezavijanje z očmi

Mangrt can only be Mangrt.
On the Julian Alps hiking map from 1988 it's still Mangrt.
Meanwhile Tine Mihelič in his guide to the Julijci from 1992 writes:
In the new edition, at the request of linguists (the author very reluctantly) we renamed the old Slavic Mangrt to allegedly more euphonious sounding Mangart. Thus the Slovenian name aligned with the Italian.
Hard to believe it went through. zmedenjezen

Interesting that in the tourist guide of Slovenia from 1964 it says like this.
Log pod Mangrtom 650m, in magnificent mountain surroundings one of the most beautiful Slovenian villages along the Predel road, where traffic already passed in ancient times, interesting excursion place and modest resort.
Sights: mountain village with mountain climate; panoramic views from everywhere to mighty alpine peaks Rombon, Jerebica, Predel Head, Mangrt (from the Primorska side called Mangartzmeden, Jalovec and Loška Wall; memorial to valley defenders from WWI, behind it a tunnel through which still some miners drive to the Italian side to work in the Raibl mine. Grohar's ceiling painting in the church.
Surroundingsvelik nasmeh ascent from Bovec through Kluže; Strmec at Predel - village of black grouse -(in 1943 Germans shot all men and burned houses with the characteristic Gothic church), above the village turnoff to Mangrt road and memorial with dying lion in honor of defenders of Austrian fortress who fell to the last in battles with French 1809, Predel pass 1156m NNW 7km, Dom na Predelu 3h and 7 turns, views, Mangrt road, passable also for buses, climbs in bold hairpins through several tunnels to Mangrt Saddle 2072m NE 12km, Pk 12h and 8 turns, from there another 1 1/2h to Mangrt summit 2678m, state border, views.
So the name Mangart really originates from the Primorska side or Italy.nasmeh

I'd ask someone who was at Mangart Saddle in the last days, how is the path from Predel to the saddle for walkers - is it trodden. Thanks for the answer.

@viharnik, thanks for this really exhaustive report. I've been wondering for quite some time what that lion at the top of the pass actually means. Otherwise yes, always Mangrt, as always, at least for us Gorenjci, Prisanknasmeh.

Mangrt is a piece of heaven on earth that always enchants again. I have a tradition to go by bike at least once a year to the saddle, most times I was last year, four times in one week, I had archery week in Bovec - crazy. And yes, out of respect for the mountain, I decided never to go up by car.

hi and sorry for the delay, "drevored" remains because there is the border between Rateški pasture (Rateški Consortium if I translated right) and Consorzio Pascoli Fusine and Val Romana-Belopeski pasture.mežikanje

Today I saw a TV report about sledding on the Mangart road. I'd like to ask experts again (e.g. Igor Zlodej) if the path along the road to the saddle is trodden (I'm not a skier) and if there are any avalanche dangers. Thanks for any info.

Well, the sledding report is about three weeks old, so conditions are quite different now. You walk along the road only partially, otherwise on the marked path across Mangart pasture and over Mesnovka, in the upper part on the winter variant past the ruins. Snow higher up is windblown and hard in the morning, so greater risk of slipping than avalanches, but of course in the afternoon when the snow softens it might break through quite a bit. Most go with snowshoes and skis.

Some photos from Sunday's walk along Mangart road. Dry to Mangart pasture, then snow and ice. Turned back at the last tunnel, not safe to continue without crampons and ice axe.

Early morning I head towards the saddle. Snowshoes mandatory to the old hut, then for safety didn't continue. Snow covered with thin crust that occasionally broke through. Under crust pure powder that wasn't bonded to the base at all. On return detour over Stožje and to Vršič. Maximally beautiful day.nasmeh

if starting from bel.jezer, which is the best gully to mangart? i went alone on this path that reaches the saddle. Are other variants possible?

These are old photos. First ascents--now more is known..otherwise pictured here when the pole was still out, shortly after they were removed, true it looks a bit weird.

The one and only road and even that will be closed, oh boy, parking will be fun, well I don't plan to drive up anyway.
But where did the toll collection of 5 euros/personal car go?
Where will all this sheet metal go.1

Since I inspected the rockfall last fall and again this year, I can say it's just as dangerous as any of the tunnels. Objectively dangerous almost everywhere on mountain roads, so they'd have to close all.

panda29. 06. 2013 07:33:34
Why not the road to the top then? So they'd have to close the road to Logar Valley too and more....there are quite a few road accesses to trailheads where something can objectively fall on your car (head). Local bigwigs in Log pod Mangartom saw a chance to earn with tolls. I don't complain, I've used it too.......but if the road exists, it would be irresponsible not to clear it, as cowboy parking will cause additional problems.

The road is nicely drivable.
5 € is ecological tax. And it's right that they collect it.
