Does anyone know maybe how far the road is passable, and approx how much time with touring skis to the saddle?

Požarje - Mangart Saddle Sunday treat of solitude and peace in a pleasant touring ski stroll towards my favorite mountain... Mangart. I park at the parking lot at the Mangart road turnoff from Predil. To the bridge crossing Mangart stream the road is dry, then nicely snow-covered all the way to the top and passable with touring skis or snowshoes, but advise against skinning depending on snow amount and structure. Fallen trees and larger drifts can be bypassed nicely all to the 5th tunnel, where some old avalanche debris is, but given current conditions and especially my very late departure time the crossing was very unpleasant. After careful consideration I didn't risk it and turned back. From the road I turn under 4th tunnel to marked path in forest and ski via Planina Mangart almost back to bridge of closed road (cca. last 50m dry). Although not right at its face, the view of it was very soothing

For some years same story. Sign put a bit aside and all go to end. Until someone gets rocks on hood or somewhere else... Really wonder if landslide still so active road not repaired. Or just no will and €€€€? Maybe Igor or other from those ends say more?

Yeah, but even if "skinny" I would still brew coffee for two, it's nicer in company.

My first snow of the coming winter, where else but here . Even though there was little of it, it looked like sugar on a carnival donut. It was great... really Maestral-like The road is drivable to the saddle. In the morning it was a bit snowy and icy from the hut onwards, then the sun melted the snow on it. I did a loop around the saddle, to the first fixed cables of the Italian route to Mangart (left of the Slovenian gully) and on the way back a quick jump to the start of the Mali Špice ridge. Up to the fixed cables of the Italian route to Mangart the snow is crusty, there it starts to appear ice under this powdery snow. Anyway, it was cool... Pics are unfortunately only from the mobile.

A nice cold morning lured me to Visoka Špica by Mangart Saddle. With skis I reach a bit below the summit, from there sinking and very slow progress to the top. Meanwhile the wind spiced up the hike, blowing snow and smoothing the track in the snow. At the top the thermometer showed -17, banana hard, sandwich like from the freezer, camera didn't work, except the phone warming in the pocket somehow captured the day. Descent on skis pure enjoyment all the way to the car.

When you can't go higher on foot, Mangart Saddle is a super choice for recharging batteries above 2000m. Short video on the link: Mangart Saddle, 2055 m, October 2019 Safe steps in the mountains and best regards, Mirko
