g. all about this trail is in the -Mountaineering Guide- Andrej Mašera - Western Julian Alps or just look on the internet. We saw plenty of chamois herds when we went to Vrtača. Have a nice evening further.

If everyone didn't open new topics for every trail they do and stuck to already open topics, of which there are plenty about Montaž, g. g. wouldn't have such strange questions, just click on "search" and enter the desired name.

Above Pipanova lojtra you can go a bit further along the ridge eastwards towards Vrh Brda, then to the right down, but attention, this "bypass" of the path is safe only when dry, otherwise in wet it can slip quite a lot there. Below under the "lojtra" or first cables it rejoins the normal path. This bypass is a good solution if there's crowd at the lojtra.

Thanks Igor for the answer BT88.Regarding yesterday's comment though. In principle I agree, but on this forum whole "doctorates" are written about various nonsense. But I think a bit of personal satisfaction (bragging) can't hurt, especially if people like to read it.Regarding searching for trips on Hribi net, in the concrete case when ben gave the link it works, otherwise many don't know how to find things that interest them. There are always two options: read or don't read. Personally I read all articles by Igor Zlodej and some other authors. They are very interesting and instructive and I know they are people who know a lot. Some even have the option to climb some peak every day. No hard feelings Igor, bye!

BT88 Igor Zlodej nicely explained my notion of the ridge one, from the top down, that's the easier variant of approach to Montaž, have a nice day!

Aha thanks sorry I'm a big fan of those western areas (our) Alps and visit them many times on all possible paths so if there's some new hidden path it tempts me right away. But I have to say one of those pics confused me a lot. As I see you mean the path to the right of the ladder if I'm standing under the ladder looking up (steep grass that brings us to the top of the ladder . The day is really nice if someone's there today let them say how much it's snow-covered.

Majdag, ok no panic, because it's more or less all described already, seems pointless to open a new thread, as it just fragments the topic, of course applies to others too, very simple click on: Forum New thread search otherwise sometimes takes quite a while, but it finds it, then nicely append and admin has no work cuz no need to move it. And that's not the biggest problem, interesting that some don't realize there are pages and only look at the last one, but that's another... anyway Montaz is king of ZJ and that shitter has nothing to do with it. As for snow, there's some, but snow ain't a problem.

"Anyway Montaz is king of ZJ and that shitter has nothing to do with it." Igor, this is so true, but I think many don't share this view. For many it's a first-class attraction ...

The morning greyness turned into a completely clear sky with some shreds of mist at Pl. Pecol. I shared the path to the saddle Vrh Strmali with a guy from Celovec, his wife and her sister. Higher up we parted, I past Suringar, they over Pipan. The weather was perfect for Montaž, just watched out a bit for shaly and scree-covered paths. After five minutes I turned onto the Findegg couloir, where there was no living soul on the path. Only darkness accompanied me, but surprisingly the rocks were already dry despite the cold. Below the summit ridge on the NE side there was still quite some snow, which the path touches with just one step. The summit shone in the sun, the Austrians were just 10 minutes ahead. Back we went via the Pipan ladders, on which today only I stepped once alone. Down we took quick scree runs and quickly arrived at grassy Pecol, which at 4 pm was already quite cold, only 6°C. After portions of fruit and figs, at the car mozzarella, bread and home-grown tomatoes suited perfectly, so I could glide home. Probably caught the last slot for such a tour, as the next snow shipment will likely stay permanently on the mountain. Regards-Rok

Some more thoughts from the path through the Findegg couloir to add. The path through it is frequented and well-marked, just some sections of ledges were marked too directly into the wall with red lines (climbing 4th grade). Many mountaineers wouldn't climb there. The path therefore often detours to the left from the red line at those spots. Somewhere in the middle on the right there's a small roof of marking (indicating closure of the ascent direction). We find it again to the left with a thicker red arrow. The upper gully is well-marked, though not entirely easy at the start (smooth rocks). The path itself is a first-class unprotected access to the King of the Western Julians Montaž, which leaves a mark behind. The path requires not only good climbing but also a mountaineer's experience, as you face 330m of height of an apparently inaccessible couloir, in between you step on cluttered ledges (not all walkable) and plenty of rock steps, which increase in exposure with height. On this path I used quite a few climbing techniques and coordination. Every deliberate step and movement is needed, so we don't end up deep down in Dunja. Also the summit ridge after crossing is easier to climb, though we walk directly on it.

At the top of Montaž there's no summit register, just some flying papers and one mini notepad completely filled. It seemed strange to me..

That'll hold. And not only on Montaž. You got at least flying papers , elsewhere mostly not even those. Italians have it a bit differently organized than with us, where there's not much to complain about. But we don't go up for that, right ? Greetings, Bagi
