Will need to carry crampons and ice axe with you.
Just before 18:00 two Canadian mountaineers needed help. On the way from Kotova špica towards Ozebnik in the Julian Alps they got stuck due to ice. This time GRS Rateče mountain rescuers stepped in. They boarded the Slovenian army helicopter and picked up the mountaineers, whom they soon brought unharmed to the valley.

I think they mixed something up, as the locations don't add up.

Something new, not both foreign nationals:
On Sunday, October 13th, the nice weather was calling us to the mountains. So with my colleague from Canada, we set off from Planica to Kotovo sedlo. We were decently shod and dressed. The mountain tops were snowy, but I figured it would melt by afternoon. We climbed to the bivouac below Kotovo sedlo via the summer path. The snow was nicely south-facing and allowed reliable and safe walking. I had a rope and some karabiners with me, so I could belay my colleague on exposed sections. Since walking on the soft snow was so pleasant, I decided to descend past Jalovčev ozebnik, along the ski touring route, as I figured the descent on the south snow covering the gravel path, where walking in dry conditions isn't the most pleasant, would be quick. When we got below Jalovec, the snow was getting more frozen, but I figured it would be better lower down. At first, kicking steps was enough by kicking harder into the snow, later I helped myself with ski poles. I didn't have an ice axe with me because I didn't expect winter conditions in mid-October. The snow was getting more frozen, the surface like glass. Two pitches below the end of the glacier, I assessed that the conditions had become too dangerous to continue, so I called for help by phone. Via Austrian and Slovenian police, they connected me to GRS Rateče station, where they promised assistance. Just in case, we climbed back below Jalovec wall, where I dug a shelter in the snow from the wind. Luckily we were well dressed, but if we had to spend the night there, I don't know how it would have ended. In the first twilight, we spotted the helicopter. A friendly rescuer descended to us on the winch, then everything went smoothly, we landed in Rateče as it was getting dark. In the dark and under the impression of what happened, we could only thank the rescuers for saving us. I couldn't remember their faces, so now in Rateče I greet everyone on the street. Finally, on behalf of both, I want to thank the Austrian and Slovenian police, GRS Rateče rescuers and the helicopter unit for saving us from a hopeless situation that was solely the result of my wrong decision to ascend in conditions that initially seemed favorable but could easily have become fatal. Thanks guys! Shawnda Morrison and Miro @[100005903953954:2048:Vrhovec>

Ljubitelj gora, thanks for sharing your story as a warning of how serious and unpredictable a mountain adventure can be. I'm very glad it turned out well for all of you.

I would add this interesting fact; most hypothermia deaths in the mountains - interestingly - are not in winter, but in summer. Winter conditions can of course hit us in any season. Good luck.

His story as a warning... He just copied the text! And carrying ice axe and crampons from the first snow onwards in high mountains is obvious for most...

It wasn't me, I just copied the post from GRS, I don't push on, but turn back in time, and I don't know why I would, because I can try another day, now reading up there about the accident under Vršaci, that's the steep traverse towards Zelnarice-Z.Vogl, probably without gear or some surprise with gear.

At Zelnarici - I assume slip due to slippery terrain. There's still snow up there. Tragic...

Or isn't this the path from Hribarice towards pl. Dedno polje that's meant?

Given the incomplete descriptions, more likely on the approach/descent from Zelnarice than on that traverse.

I think LG has the right location on the photo. Peter also wrote about this path in his post http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=668

On the way to Storžič a climber slipped and later died from the consequences of the fall.

According to Kranj police data, a climber slipped in the morning on the way to Storžič. Rescuers who descended to him by helicopter could no longer help him.

According to Slovenske novice report, two students from Ljubljana went to Storžič according to unofficial information. In the Žrelo area west of the known Kramarjeva route, one of them slipped on the snowfield and fell into the depths.

After the call for help, Tržič mountain rescuers were activated, and also a rescue crew flew from Brnik in a Slovenian Army helicopter, including a doctor.

The first rescuers from the helicopter descended to the victim and could only ascertain that the consequences of the fall were fatal for him.

Many of us love the mountains,
we like to feel their beauty up close.
But all too often an accident happens,
in which the climber closes his eyes forever.

Our sincere condolences.

On today's tragic event on Storžič

So beautiful in the mountains,
everyone walks their own paths.
No one thinks of an accident,
for among the peaks we seek only happiness.

Our sincere condolences.

As Žakelj said, in the mountains you never know. You can only plan the tour as best as possible with strength, info, gear and knowledge. Everything else from snow, cold, wind, falling rocks, avalanches, crevasses, hidden ice slabs, seracs, even lightning is in God's hands.
It's good to engage the senses during the tour and observe the surroundings based on experience and then continue planning the tour or end it in a safe spot.
Now, when it's still winter cold in the mountains, extra warm clothing and a large bivouac bag and all technical winter gear will be essential.
