come on ban this promotion of plundering forests already. isn't it by law allowed to pick 2 kg per person. not a whole truck ??

Sad, it gives me the shivers when i look around the forest and find bottles, cans, trash.... is it so hard for mushroom pickers to take away empty packaging too. cars parked everywhere. trunks full of mushrooms. soon there wont be mushrooms anymore, some proper cutting and transport. we should think a bit, tighten control and punish "nature lovers". sad and shameful! igor

Yeah, true Čokolino, soon there won't be any more - neither mushrooms nor pickers, because the season is ending. We should really punish those who litter forests and so that it wouldn't even cross their mind again.

I've been picking mushrooms for quite some years mainly same spots and so far haven't noticed fewer mushrooms in forest - rather opposite. But true, forests at least lowland ones much more "grown" with trash.

I wouldn't want to stir passions again that flared up on this page. In warm autumn days noticeable larger numbers of these mushrooms and I did some research on them. http://www.gobe.si/Gobe/ClitocybeNebularis I think because of this post there won't be mass hikes to neighboring woods..

Andrej's claim doesn't hold in lowland forests there are mushrooms, compared to 30 years ago, only 20% I myself go picking for 30 years. Probably same in 30 years in highland forests, with such mushroom frenzy. Too bad no one thought of mushroom flu.

I meant lowland areas - difference is only that now mushroomers are incomparably more - mushrooms overall quite more just that now the amount of boletus and chanterelles is divided among more "parts"

I must correct myself it concerns observations in those 10 forests which I visit for 30 years. In these forests many people used to mushroom in the past when mushrooms about 10 years ago proliferated also mushroomers are no more and also boletus and chanterelles are very rare. From this I conclude that excessive mushrooming can greatly reduce the stands. I still go to those same forests as 2-3 boletus for dinner are quite enough for me I won't dry them or stuff them in freezer to throw them in trash later when they have no more taste.

I am a mushroomer ("from birth") I won't argue (whether mushroom growth is decreasing?). I will just describe my observation. There are significantly more mushroomers!! Mushrooms when in season grow massively both in the valley and in higher world. But I'll give an example! On Smrekovec I started mushrooming with a friend about 20 years ago. We moved higher because morning mushrooming here spread so much! To Smrekovec in recent years everything that crawls and walks has moved. So I haven't driven up for mushrooms for a few years - nor has my friend. I go then when my wife goes to pick (by hand!!) a few liters of blueberries for home needs. At that time I take a short walk in the old spots - if mushrooms are growing I'll pick despite there being mushroomers like leaves and grass on Smrekovec. So I don't support the theory that there are fewer mushrooms every year. But in these years I have greatly changed my attitude towards picking mushrooms. I pick enough that we eat them at home or we eat all fresh as we pick. No more preserving and huge reserves in the pantry. I admit that sometimes we threw away (sadly!!) a jar or bag of mushrooms the next season. I used to boast (sadly!!) with a full trunk! That doesn't happen anymore!! I always go to the forest with great pleasure and bring home photos of mushrooms as well as mushrooms but when there are a few bags in the pantry I stop (even if rumors say there are still lots of mushrooms for every spruce). Regards

I accidentally came across this thread. I too am a mushroomer from a young age and I assure you there are now much fewer mushrooms than 40 years ago when I was in the forest every day. Back then we didn't eat chanterelles because there were simply too many but sold them to the cooperative. So I feel guilty too for the extinction of chanterelles; in a 10-year-old mushroom book I read that they are already extinct in western Europe and will be here too. For other mushrooms I can't claim that. On the path from Stol via Z. plain to Završnica there were incredibly many red fly agarics in autumn. Regards.

I read a bit and looked at these big mushroom trophies. I myself am a mushroomer since childhood who knows quite a few species. I agree with some previous ones who criticized these uncultured mushroomers who destroy it with such ravaging in forests. Even more it angers me when I walk and pick myself, when they as mushroomers kick and trample both edible and inedible. I think mixed a bit of each are much tastier. With this you do no harm to the forest. If I'm not mistaken mushroom is SPICE. Personally I go to forest for mushrooms when they are and we crave them, mainly the walk is important.

Why are you pulling the mushrooms? Isn't it right to cut them?

You're right, only we two, when we were returning from some mountain, missed the trail and ran into chanterelles (without a knife) Kind regards.
