8.2.2010 Nanos - great day to visit such mountains, path snow-covered, feeling phenomenal, only towards the top strong burja blew that it moved you, very cold, I got cold feet but nothing matters, the view impressed me so much that I forgot all problems, real winter idyll like in a fairy tale, let anyone say it wasn't worth the effort...

Sabina7 with Slavnik it's like this, at least based on my experiences. Parking lot full, ugly to see. In the village you still meet some hiker returning, but when you step on the "tastrmo" path the number of hikers drops radically. I have the feeling that at least 70% of hikers go to Slavnik via the longer gentle path (at least) uphill. In the hut on such a day it can really be crowded, which you avoid by stepping to the neighboring Grmada, having a snack from the backpack and enjoying solitude. If you REALLY don't want to meet anyone, go up via the power line cutting, where you have to walk on game trails but it's doable, tried! More courage next time. Good luck

Beautiful sunny Sunday perfect for a walk to Nanos. Up the steep path and down the gentle one. Interesting that the steep path is more trodden than the gentle one. Nature played again and created interesting scenes and shapes. It would be a shame not to use such a day for such a nice walk.

What are the conditions like on Nanos?

On Sunday from Razdrto via steep trail up to the first cable conditions were the worst. In places compacted and icy snow, in places trail completely dry. Further on ok. On the plateau (after cable) still one patch of snow that's visibly melting. On Sunday better to go along the ridge. Crampons not needed.

I was last on Nanos on Sunday. The trail was icy up to the first cable. Otherwise it's changing day by day due to daytime thaw and nighttime freeze. Went without crampons but "the small ones" wouldn't hurt, especially for descent. Gaiters are not needed either. After Pleša or "after cable" still some snow. Along the ridge (past the cave) OK. Otherwise plenty of snow at the hut. Good luck!

Today the steep path to Nanos was surprisingly different from Sunday. To the fork for "Janezovo" completely snow-free, further to the first "cable" some patches, then ok again. A little snow after pleša, which was slippery due to wet ground. But around the hut still plenty. Temperature 6 degrees above zero. SW wind not stormy at all. I returned along the ridge to below pleša where it was completely dry.

Yesterday I spent a rich and varied day in Primorska. First I drove through the galleries of the new Vipava motorway, over Lozice to Vipava, where I turned onto the old road and along Noanoška cesta to the first flat area and parking in Podnanos. Then on foot past the hunter's hut along the ridge edge over St. Jerome to the top of Pleše Nanos. Already halfway the strong bora was blowing, so soft shell and cap were almost not enough. Last hundred meters below the summit trees were still encased in ice, on the path some rime. No one up there, only nasty Karst shepherd dog, wherever I headed on top of Nanos, followed me behind the fence and barked. Guarding the transmitter facility, his territory. In the end I childishly teased him, so from barking he only howled more rarely. Next I headed of course to the shaggy one at Pri Abrama, path is really long, completely on the other side of Nanos. Owner's son says the bear is now 15 years old, lives to about 30 years, weighs already 350kg. Real beast-monster!, but quite tame and domesticated. Since I was late, van driver with drinks who just unloaded at Pri Abrama's drove me down. Of course heading to Karst to friend and real Karst Teran. In Ponikve at Škabar they have first-class from young vines around there, where acid is higher than in old seedlings. Same wine variety differs from growth location of same soil already at 10km. After tasting real wine on Karst I realized that even "Ljubljana" wine bars are "spoiling" with wine authenticity compared to authentic countryside and already mix black wines with white. After pleasant gathering with sincere friends, over pure drop of Teran, white Cabernet Sauvignon and prosciutto, late evening in half hour back home. I wish you nice Easter holidays and awakening of Jesus' original values in us, which rule earth and sky and were spoken in his earthly life.

Viharnik, Cabernet Sauvignon is red wine, Sauvignon is white, right?! Happy holidays with lots of good food and good wine I wish you and many more trip reports from your wanderings. G

Yes, true! Drank it first time, namely the white one. They call it white Sauvignon.

I've visited this Inner Carniolan mountain many times, but for the first time saw these wonderful animals. Happened on Saturday 3.4. Path completely dry throughout, only a little snow at the top near the hut.

It's really nice until you reach the hut, which inside literally falls apart. Wherever you look, moisture. Outside, all trash. When the hut keeper was Mr. Dušan Žitko, everything was different.

Today hike to Nanos, on slightly steeper path - to Vojka's hut, for which I'd say all that the predecessor wrote is true, in hut crowd, smelled of moisture, black stains on walls and corners, mold attacked wooden windows horror, one doesn't feel good in such space. And for peace and beauty my husband and I pushed a bit further to Suhi vrh, on this path still quite some snow and sometimes sinking in. Suhi vrh worth visit and also such long drive to Razdrto. Safe steps.
