Olševa

Sašo already wrote it was nice. It really was and more.
Already on the way to Lipševa vrata things were happening. We parked at Strevec and then chose the path on the Austrian side. Up to where under the foot of Olševa the path returns to the border, the path is good. It's just wet and it's wet there even in dry weather. Then we had to switch to our side, as there are many newly fallen trees on the Austrian side. At the junction above we turned onto the path to Lipševa vrata. Over it there are still old and new fallen trees, but cleared enough to walk nicely. Of course with some extra free exercise.mežikanje While descending to Vrata we admired two chamois. A female rock ptarmigan also appeared. Sašo was fascinated by the Vrata, as he saw them first time.
On the way to Obel kamen I was drawn to the ridge winding from Vrata up to the top. It's not just one ridge, but many follow one after another and all are beautifully rugged. Full of new impressions, tired and about an hour behind Sašo I panted to the summit. During the break we exchanged many impressions. Both saw some chamois, I also ptarmigan. Meanwhile a raven posed on the cross for us.
Descent past Potočka zijalka and detour to scenic Strevčeva peč was the icing on the beautiful tour.
Path to Strevčeva peč below on the logging trail slightly hindered by a few fallen trees, on the slope all ok.
Best and safe steps to all from under beautiful Golte, Janeznasmeh
On the border with Austria there are still some old markers.1

Currently from Sleme it's hard to reach Olševa ridge. I think next weekend it will be different. To clear fallen trees needs another 2-3 days. In the upper part, then the path will be obstacle-free again. Best. J

PATH is cleared another hundred meters higher, the last slope leading to the ridge remains.
Such obstacles take quite some time to remove.1
View of the cleared path2
On open sections there is up to half a meter of snow. The snow covers the trail well. Sometimes it's hard to find it.3

From Sleme you can reach Olševa without problems regarding windthrow.

Likewise from Kum direction the path is cleared of windthrow, I haven't checked yet the condition from the meadow with ditches towards Foršnerc and further to Govec. I think no major obstacles.

Today I checked from the meadow (parking area) towards Govec. Almost no work, I didn't go to the top of Govec because it was too windy, in the cold gully there is knee-deep snow in places. Foresters are working full on. The landscape has changed a lot. The logging trail between the two meadows where the marked path runs is not fully cleared yet. Best to go lower along the meadow to the parking and then follow marked.

Janez did you happen to see the condition in the gully?
Will it be possible to ski tour when there's snow, or too much fallen.

To be honest, I don't go there and don't know the condition, I think inside there wasn't strong wind. Wind did most damage at the foot of Olševa, around the last meadow, then northwards, Snežnik and along the border to Topica pools.

The gully is on the north side west of the summit and the last meadows.
What about the condition from the karavla to the last meadows?
Thanks!

Today I intended to hike the path from lower Slemen to Olševa. I took snowshoes and a hand saw with me. I put on the snowshoes already at the start. It was interesting when I reached the storm damage area, as for every tree that posed special danger when clearing the path to Olševa, I had a vivid image in my head. It needed to be brought down and later off the path. Today I fixed small things too, cut some branches and small trees that gave way under snow weight. So the trail is "straight". Wind was very strong, carrying snow from trees and erasing my track. When I reached the ridge, due to caution looking for passages, a snow mass broke off right in front of me, after few meters I turned and did some more small things on return, without fear. So I wasn't at the summit and small obstacles below summit remain task for next time. New snow half meter, much less in forest.
Starting point on the ridge1
Nice scrambling on the slab2
Beginning of the windthrow3
We did good work like foresters4
Plenty of work still awaits the foresters5
There are also some underpasses6
There were many such places, more trees piled up7
In the upper part the forest thins out, therefore there is more snow.8
Cornices appear9
The wind is still building cornices10
If one wanted to the summit, would have to pass under them at narrow spots. Here one could go over them, a few meters more to the right11
A cornice that slid down the next minute, at the moment when I nearby wanted to climb to the top12
And it was gone, I could pass under it.13
It didn't go far. After 50 m I turn back to the valley instead, more time left for path repairs.14

SPODNJE SLEME- GOVCA

The path to Olševa is well trodden. A problem could arise if it thaws too much and the hard base softens. The snow base has very varying thickness. Overall, much snow has melted. I managed to saw through a small obstacle on the path. From Govca northwards, the view shows how much forest the storm destroyed.

30.3. Potočka zijalka and Obel kamen
Warm weather has already strongly melted the ice stalactites in Zijalka. The path is almost bare, only the upper ridge to Govca is still covered in snow. On the border path to the Sv. Duha saddle there are still lots of fallen trees.

Yesterday we were on Govca. From the Slovenian direction, everything is nicely bare to the summit ridge, where there is still some snow, but it can be crossed without special difficulties. The Austrian path to Obel kamen is practically still entirely under snow, so we decided to skip Obel Kamen and return the same way, but we still wanted to see Vrata (Felsentor), so at the junction a little below Potočka Zijalka we turned to Austria anyway.
From that junction onwards, the real obstacle course begins. The entire west side is full of fallen trees (storm), which need to be climbed over, crawled under, or detoured by going far up the hill to avoid them. When you reach the north side, the fallen trees are replaced by small ice fields and snow patches, so great caution is needed. I would advise against the path for the less skilled; the stubborn and those who enjoy solving problems get as a reward at the end a pristine gem with a wonderful natural monument and magnificent views.

Lower Sleme - Govca

Trail start along ruined road, first slope bare, cleaned, pleasant for walking. With altitude snow begins, of course, as for windthrow, it's as we cleaned - removed in winter. when it completely melts, it will be seen how thoroughly we threw branches off the trail. On the ridge, still lots of snow, so needs quite some physical strength. Sinks to knees too. Below Govca nice traverse, narrow but established trail. View into cold valley shows still much snow, but need to check actual state. ]]>
Timber hauling has done its damage1
100 meters of new skid trail saved me work, I took the tools home2

Narrow trail below Govec8
Very wet snow, slightly refrozen in places9
Mossy summit, still without sheep this year10
