Joža, the data on today's conditions on Olševa won't help you much on Sunday. Wait for the end of today's and tomorrow's snowfall, as conditions could be much different.
Best regards

Did anyone go to Olševa this weekend? I'm curious how much snow there is. Thanks LP

I park at Rogarju. The road to them is dry and normally drivable. There is not much snow on the path (trail) and it holds a person's weight. The ice axe and crampons stayed in the backpack. In Potočka zijalka the stalactites are not very big yet, but still very nice to see. The views during the ridge walk from Govca to Obel kamen were exceptional. Upon arriving at the car, I decided on a quick trip to Strevčeva peč. It was almost harder to climb it than Olševa. The path to it is quite tricky in winter due to the steepness.
Best regards from under the beautiful Golts, Janez.

Yesterday my wife and I went to Olševa. We parked by the road at Rogarju. The road is dry. Morning temperature in the valley -6, at Rogarju +4°C. The path to Potočka zijalka is mostly dry, in the forest partly muddy. At the sign for Austria we turned left to see the windows or rock gates as Austrians call them. In the flat part the path is dry, but when we reached the north side it became snowy so we had to use crampons. No one ahead of us on this path so we walked in deep snow. We also crossed a snow slide. The protections on the path to the windows are in good condition. The view through the windows is wonderful. On the return we tried to find the direct path to Obel kamen (desc: geppo 13.6.2009) but couldn't find it, or rather we missed it a bit highermrk pogled. We'll have to try in summer conditions. We returned to the approach path and went back along it to the sign, where there is a marked path left uphill through the forest. We climbed the ridge and then lost the path in the snow. This time we didn't return but found a crossing sideways along the slope and reached the Slovenian marked path a bit above Potočka zijalka. We continued to Obel kamen, then along the ridge towards Govca and back along the path to Potočka zijalka and Rogarju. There is still plenty of snow on the ridge, on the path at some places, otherwise it is dry. Only the junction of the path to Obel kamen is icy at a few places. Extra caution is needed to avoid slipping. Nice all-day tripnasmeh.

Best regards!
Dani

Yesterday's view of the Savinja sea fully made up for dragging the fresh trail over the Olševa ridge. I hope this wasn't the last "hurray" of this winter.

Hi, today we were on Olševa. First we went to the Zijavka stream. The path to there is normally passable, slightly icy in certain places, but crampons aren't needed (at least we didn't need them). Further, we set off after careful consideration, put on crampons (we were four - 1 large, 2 small, 1 without) and went. The snow was crusty in certain places icy - I don't recommend walking without crampons. At the sign that separates the paths to Obel kamen and Govca we decided for Obel kamen, as the path is much less difficult than the one to Govca. We descended without major problems, but great caution is needed. Lp

Has anyone been to Olševa by chance in the last few days?
On Saturday I plan to go up, however, when reading previous posts, crampons are mostly recommended... Since my girl doesn't have them, I'm interested in conditions on the path?
If too risky, we'll choose some other target....

Thanks for answers...

I think it's not too smart to go to Olševa without crampons, but everyone should decide for themselves. To the Zijavka stream no problem without crampons, further you'll see. Lp Bojan

Today my girl and I visited Olševa...
Weather for gods, views phenomenal, very few visitors, so it was really for total disconnection!

Conditions are very changeable - as @Kozo already said to Potočka zijavka no problem, then need to be careful right away in the first gully when crossing. In the morning still no problem because snow held, on descent need to be very careful as snow breaks through a lot.

Towards the top of Obel kamen then no problems. except when crossing grassy slopes, where there's only a couple cm of snow on grass that's very slippery. Further towards Govca lots of windblown snow that sometimes holds, other times you sink in up to your ass...

Met 9 hikers, even though we stayed very long at the top and before Zijavka.

After looong time on Olševa, the day was wonderful, so I enjoyed the silence, solitude and fairy-tale views...path from Sv. Duh almost entirely dry, just here and there still snow or ice and in the morning mini crampons came in handy. First went to the top of Olševa-Govca, then continued to or over Obel kamen back to Potočka zijavka. On the ridge windblown snow, but no problems. It was a very nice daynasmeh

Wonderful pictures. Maybe Olševa is really a bit "neglected", given the interesting features on the path and beautiful views.
Nice greetings.

On Olševa yesterday only a few hikers, met 4, it was quite pleasant in peace and quiet.
Potočka still shows dripstones, stalagmites and stalactitesnasmeh, path along the ridge still in snow, which in the sun when footprints broke through was quite deep.
Views for the soul.
And safe steps!

Parked at Rogarju and headed to Olševa. Path through the forest is dry, in Potočka zijavka no more traces of ice stalactites. On top of Olševa snow only remnants, unfortunately windy, so I quickly headed back to the valley.
Maybe also criticism to the markers - maintainers of the path to Olševa from Rogarja. Markings are besides being quite rare in very poor condition. Haven't been renewed for quite some time. Let's give markers the brush in hand!

I'm wondering if there's still some snow on the path to the top.
We plan to go up 27.04.2011.

Even if there isn't any now, where does it say it won't snow until the holidays, above 1500 m it happens quick?
Such info is sought (and when some weather forecast already "holds") a day or three before, almost 2 weeks before you NEED to call 090xxxx Fortune-telling...velik nasmeh

On April 9th I walked to Olševa with my girlfriend and mom. Start of pleasant hike at Rogar farm. No snow anymore, except on top along the ridge some patches found, not problematic. North side still relatively covered with corn snow. Weather sunny, very windy at top. Nice views. On way to summit can observe real carpets of crocuses. Attaching some photos.

ps. Agree with "Garmont", path poorly marked. Otherwise not hard to follow.
