On Sunday 21.2.2010 we climbed Peč (Kordeževa glava), namely from Pikovo - Peč Hut - summit. To the hut there was an old track covered with new snow. From the hut to the summit we made a new track. There was about 20 cm of new snow on the old base, but in places it breaks through up to the waist. The hut was closed this weekend. Whoever goes this week, be careful (avalanche danger)!

On Sunday 21.02.2010 we went to Peč or from the Austrian side Petzen. At 1700 m we take the gondola so we didn't hike too much - to the summit still about good 200 elevation meters. But we used the nice day for practical snow profile testing, avalanche assessment, stopping with ice axe - in short 'training'. New snow about 10-20 cm on old base, plus sinking up to waist in places. Also info for skiers who don't know the local ski resort yet - well groomed slopes - I think even in SLO we don't have a ski area where you can descend 1000 vertical meters (maybe I'm wrong)- so hurry while there's still snow...

Conditions on Peč today excellent. We parked below Luža pasture. Then via Luža pasture and Zgornja Luža pasture we climbed to Bistriška špica. Austrians made a good track for us, so we were on the summit in under two hours. From the summit fantastic views. Due to cold and wind we quickly prepared for descent. Since skiing through deep powder was so good, we unanimously decided to climb to the summit again. The second descent was even more thrilling. Really great tour. Enjoyed Igor, Klemen, Roman, Matej and Janez.
Regards from under beautiful Mozirska planina, Janez.

Nice greeting to all mountain visitors!

This Sunday 21.03.2010 we visited again and successfully ascended and descended with some mishaps from Mount Peca.

The snow is very wet and unstable, practically from the Peca hut it sinks up to 1.50 m in depth and almost at every step.

On the summit itself there is very little or none in places as it is blown away, wind gusts today up to 75 km/h.

Today we were also lucky to encounter chamois, personally I have never seen them on Peca before, although I have been visiting Peca for about 7 years.

Also on Peca there is great danger of snow avalanches, we heard one during descent from the Peca hut and after 300 m walk on the path to the valley we passed by and photographed the devastation made by mother nature and hurried to the valley.

Regards and safe journey to all mountain visitors.

Yesterday quick decision and today summited Peca.
Went for first time from Topla valley. Nice starting point and extraordinary path with views to KSA.
At 1500m faced snow, frozen on top wet below. At times searched markers and cursed in deep snow. To hut 2:30hrs and despaired we'll see summit today. No tracks to hut. From hut narrow track probably from abandoned shelter (Tito). Nice progress and so used to wading, path to summit pleasure compared to the approach to hut.
Strong sun beautiful weather summit after approx. 4hrs walk.
Gorgeous view and return.
Total walked 7hrs. Return to this beautiful end!! (Kneps path)
so from Topla valley there is track!!

On Sunday 18.4.2010 Peca summit got snow squall. In approx 30min while on summit fell approx 10cm new snow. Visibility practically =0.
For ascent descent chose path from Topla valley over Knips saddle. Snowfield below saddle not passable without crampons and ice axe.

A bit late, maybe useful for someone...
Today we were on Peca from Topla, lead mine. The path to the hut is almost fully dry, except for a few small snow patches that can be crossed without problems...
From the hut to the summit (climbing path) there is almost no snow, except right under the summit a short snow climb is needed, which can be crossed without issue.
Different story is the Knepsovo sedlo direction, still substantially snow-covered...

On Sunday 16.05. I would go to Peca via Knepsovo sedlo from Topla. I read the path is not marked. I'm wondering if the path is well trodden so I don't get lost?

geppo13. 05. 2010 09:06:23
The path is marked. When you park (saw/old shaft) you will soon see the markers. Then the paths split:
- Peca past hut
- Peca Knipsovo sedlo
all nicely marked!!

Go to the end of Topla where the road forks: left Končnik farm, right Fajmut. Park at that fork, go on foot right, you won't miss it, I didn't.
