Hehe Tomaž11 nice pics, on the 18th picture you can even still see my footprints on the first or closest "tooth" of Dolgi hrbet. I climbed up between Štruco and Dolgi hrbet, I was three days before you.

Along the long ridge1

07.11. From Logarska dolina past Okrešelj via Turski žleb to Skuta and back. Nice weather and accessible without winter gear. You cross the snowfield a few times but you can bypass it.

Has anyone been recently from south side to Skuta? Any snow on path? Winter gear needed?
Considering going up via Žmavčarje next days and back via Kokrsko sedlo.

On Saturday I did a nice loop tour.
From Kamniškega to Kokrskega sedlo the path took me. Kotliči- Turska - Skuta - D.Hrbet - D.stene - Grintovec. Conditions were mixed.

Skuta - up and down via Gamsov skret from Konec (conditions 25.12.2015)

In KSA Skuta is currently reliably the most snow-covered mountain, thus at least a bit like winter.
From Konec via Gamsov skret no snow, the jump and wire above it are dry and without special features. On Podih under Štruca some snow in places, normal access to the ridge has more, which is currently more help than obstacle for ascent, under summit in shady parts harder. Also from east side quite some visits, there - according to newcomers - initial part requires crampons and ice axe.
a nice morning in Konc promised a nice day too1
across Gamsov skret2
below the skok3
over pegs and cable dry and without peculiarities4
on Velikih podih - snow in places on the path5
on the shortcut below Štruco6
screes below Dolgi Hrbet and the usual path to Skuta still partly snowy7
there is still some snow nevertheless8
ascent to the ridge on the usual path9
towards the top of the ridge more bare rock10
upper part of the ridge, Dolgi Hrbet in the background11
conditions from saddle to summit12
at the summit - quite a good turnout today13
descent - snow below summit is firmer and slippery14
below the ridge snow is currently more aid than obstacle15
Gamsov skret - view from the bench into the valley16

Does anyone have a picture of the south face of Skuta?

Crampons and ice axe on the backpack and no panic

Yesterday via Gamsov skret to bivouac below Grintovec, then ascent to Skuta and descent via "flanke" to bivouac below Skuta. No snow tracks to the ledges, on ledges it sinks in easily, to notch between Dolgi hrbet and Skuta no problem. On ridge to Skuta windblown and frozen-ice. Descent to bivouac below Skuta is completely different story. Upper part frozen in several places (ice sections), lower part quite hard-packed, some places wet snow. Crampons and ice axe mandatory for safe ascent or descent.

I wasn't asking about crampons, but about picture of south face. Today I went climbing actually. Not on Skuta, but on Brana. Summer conditions. In the wall short sleeves. On return to valley nice view on Skuta south face too, completely dry and offers nice climbing conditions these days. Attaching one picture of Skuta.

I need help.

This year a hike to Skuta is planned. Start from Rinka waterfall through Turski žleb to Skuta. My question - is it possible to descend some other way (Not through Turski žleb and not to Kotliče)? One-day trip!

Thanks!

Via Kamniško sedlo is the easiest, a bit of a detour though

He wrote NOT via Kotliče!, so Kamniško sedlo is out. On return from Skuta you can climb to Križ (Koroška Rinka) and descend from it via the climbing path to Jezersko sedlo - onward to Savinjsko sedlo, to the valley (Okrešelj).

good luck

The least demanding descent from Skuta is to Velike pode and Kokrsko sedlo then to Kamniška Bistrica or Kokro, you just need logistics on the other side. Otherwise if you want back to Logarska dolina but Turski žleb no good, best via Turska gora to Kotliči gully then down the gully, path not marked but passable without big issues, shortens a lot vs Kamniško sedlo and back down. Also that variant as Redbull wrote, but from Skuta back to Male pode then up again to Koroška Rinka whose descent very demanding despite aids, in my opinion perhaps toughest secured path in KSA.

Ascent/descent to/from Križ from/to Mrzla dol is quite exposed (quite airy).

If you have enough fitness and will, you can extend it over or under Dolgi hrbet to Mlinarsko sedlo and down Frischauf path to Češka koča and Ledine. Over Jezersko and Savinjsko sedlo you return back to Okrešelj. But as I say... this one is quite long!

Thanks to everyone for the tips...

... most likely I'll use the variant back over Turska gora through Sod brez dna and then down through Kotliški graben as Domch recommended...

... Maybe it will be a two-day thing after all. Then we'll sleep in Češka koča and back over Jezersko and Savinjsko sedla.

One more question - Is it possible from this side (from the east and exit from Turski Žleb) to also conquer Štruca, but BEFORE Skuta? And if so, how?

Marx, get yourself the map "PZS Grintovci 1:25000" and everything will be clear to you...

If you want to go to Štruca from Logarska, you can go over Skuta and then you're on Štruca in half an hour.
