I've seen in literature many times that smooth snakes shouldn't be in our mountains (read: high mountains) at all. But I've seen them many times myself, and obviously you too.

Yes, those are rare specimens, it happens only exceptionally, basically what you wrote holds...
Venomous snakes exclude each other in Slovenia and different species can't coexist in the same area...

Yesterday we were removing a smooth snake that sought refuge at the house. This year will obviously be the year of snakes. It would be interesting to draw a parallel with last year's "mouse" year, to what extent things are connected. Does anyone know more about it?

Everyone is talking about how many smooth snakes there are this year. But when I ask acquaintances when they saw one they shrug their shoulders. I think you have to have luck to see it.
