@godovčan: For Jerebica or Rombon, that might be possible, say (personally I still think not), because those are more viper-friendly hills, but still they wouldn't crawl much over 2000m... In Gorenjska and other Slovenian mountains there's definitely no viper above 2000m. Regards! P.S: If you photographed it, would you be so kind as to upload the photo as proof? True, the photo won't have altitude written anywhere and we'll have to trust your honesty... I'd ask the same of Okamodka...

I don't have a picture from then. But the landscape of Rombon, Kanin, Krna and other southern slopes is very similar to Karst. In summer it's snake paradise there, so I don't know what's so unbelievable if you meet a viper there. I saw a common vole at 2200m on the path to Kanin, so viper would surely have something to snack there. If you want to really investigate this incredible phenomenon send email to some society or biology dept. Surely there's a group monitoring presence of this or similar species in the area. I also have one species over

About three years ago I at the bivouac below Mrzli vrh ran into four vipers (probably a nest), sunbathing nicely around the bivouac. Urbanček: you don't have to believe. LP

Come on Urbancek, how quickly you get offended and at the same time ad hoc, they used to say.

Modras looks like that so no need to run away right away, because the snake fears you 10x more.

(for fun) "advice", if snake won't get off path: give it viagra. Probably it'll get fully erect... ...and then step over without fear or harm.

What's the truth about these snakes? Is their number really greatly increased because there are huge numbers of mice too? I fear them like the devil fears the cross, I keep telling myself they fear me more than I fear them, but the fear isn't any smaller. This year I've only been in the mountains 3 times unfortunately, but I was lucky they didn't enter my field of view. I really don't want to meet them. The fact is I've seen from my bike this year as many as all previous years together, except slowworms which are many here but don't count as snakes. They still cause disgust. So what's the real situation? Thanks for the explanation to all mountaineers who are in the hills much more this year than me. Be nice to me, of course without snakes (or maybe), lp, Saša
