Modrases are there, but you have to look for them; you don't chance upon them easily. This year I saw quite a few, but I was looking for them. As urbancek says, adder and modras don't meet very often; experts say modras strongly displaces adder higher in the mountains.

The adder is anyway higher in mountains because it better tolerates cold environment, not because of modras; it's not such big deal that one would chase the other... Meeting with adder in high mountains not so unusual thing..

@Branee: True, adder better tolerates conditions ruling higher in mountains, probably would live lower too but on some areas "mixed" with modrases and calmly retreated a bit higher . We wanted to say only that these two species cannot coexist in direct contact.
True also what dragonar says, modras needs to be looked for a bit more as it doesn't stray too much from its usually rocky dwelling.

A few years ago I had opportunity to observe adder and modras which had their dwelling only five meters apart and met quite often on "hunt", but never noticed that they wouldn't tolerate each other. Of course I didn't observe them 24 hours a day.

If someone has a photo of a snake habitat, I'm very curious how it looks, especially interesting would be such one that has habitats of both above-mentioned neighbors - borderers.

Sadly, when I had the chance to observe these two beauties, I didn't have a camera yet, let alone a video camera, so no recordings. Mother nature gifted me quite some hours of observing these beautiful but mysterious animals. I observed even the "birthing" of a modras female. Four hours lasted the birth of six live and one stillborn young. The second and fourth youngling the raven took within these four hours of my observation and carried away (and ate). The stillborn I picked up and, soaked in spirit, gave to my doctor friend from Austria, who was studying these beautiful reptiles then.

This year there are maybe somewhat more than in previous years. Last time I ran into 3 specimens in 15 minutes, of which 2x Laški g.

Today by the lake on an arranged mown grassy beach I lay pleasantly dozing.
After a good hour of lying I got up; for a pillow I had a jacket, when I picked it up an adder slid down my arm from the sleeve, I had great luck that it was this year's "model" and luckily didn't bite me, it was quite small, about 20cm. Good that it wandered without mom, I must say I got honestly scared.

Given the short tail and quite triangular head, characteristic of vipers, I doubt it was a mistake. I got scared purely reflexively, even if I were blind my pulse would rise. Too bad I couldn't photograph it, it sped off into the hazel bush
