True, correctly without "N", but it's certainly not alpine zvončica. More like pot-bellied zvončica. Alpine grows in Slovenia only on Komna mežikanje

Don't miss the nice autumn days and completely summer conditions. Yesterday I set off for Stenar, but a bit roundabout. Via Luknja I climbed to Bovški Gamsovec, descended to Dovška vrata and from there to Stenar. Continued below Stenarskimi vratci to Križ and then past the four to Vrata.
Weather and views extraordinary, the trail completely dry - some snow patches only on the descent from Križ on the north side, which can be avoided. Few hikers, most on B.Gamsovec.
Until Friday it'll be like that!

View of Stenar from Bivak 4. If going from Aljažev dom, at the junction (right Skrlatica, left Stenar) winter gear is needed, as Melisce is still completely snow-covered.

Yesterday on Stenar from Vrata via Sovatna. Up to Dovška vrata the path is dry. Further towards the summit of Stenar there is still quite some snow on the path, so at least an ice axe is not superfluous. We descended to Pogačnikov dom, where an injury occurred, so the helicopter helped us to the valley from there.. unfortunately mrk pogled
Thanks again to the staff of Pogačnikov dom and GRS and the SV pilots nasmeh... now recovery hoping for the soonest return up there where it's the best.. of course velik nasmeh
Safe and best regards.

Hi! Has anyone recently done the circular tour Vrata - Stenarska vratca - Stenar - Dovška vratca - Vrata? I'm interested if the path is nicely passable (what are the snow conditions - ice axe & crampons, or just ice axe)? Are the snowfields very steep and difficult to cross? Thanks.

Already from Dovje you can see that the scree under Stenarska vratca is still nicely covered with snow.

Today on Stenar.. with a buddy we started from Vrata and then towards Stenarska vratca. The scree under the vratca is still quite covered although the snow is melting fast (winter gear recommended). From Stenarska vratca towards the summit we took our own pathless route (directly to Stenar along the ridge of its north wall) ridge nice 2., then along the marked path to the valley.

@Skof, you could put a few more pics and higher resolution ones, because I'm really interested in how that ridge looks, the one you went up. nasmeh

@CarpeDiem247, I search and search on the phone but somehow can't find better resolution pics. The problem is I forgot the camera at home.. so that's what I have.

Yesterday, 7.11., I set off from Vrata to Bivak 4. Below the bivak, at the Škrlatica/Stenar junction, I changed to winter gear. First sinking to ankles, then to knees. Under Stenar Gates, windpacked snow to the ass, so entry to the last steep part was time-consuming. Since snow was not settled, the steep part to the top of Stenar gates was quite demanding. At the top, I checked the watch. For the summit of sunlit Stenar, it was too late. I descended via Sovatna. On the south side, conditions were totally different. South snow, also some small slides. I arrived at Aljažev dom in the dark.
