Yes, I'm writing in general, because I regretted twice choosing Zabreška for descent when there was nice sunshine velik nasmeh

, everything soft under feet (last year end of March). Snow got so crusty, I barely got my foot out just above the tree line there was still plenty....
This year I'm already really missing Stol, but health doesn't allow it now. Good that decrees still forbid other region, easier to hold back velik nasmeh

Today after a long time on Stol, road passable to Valvazorja, snow starts at 1400-1500m, winter gear mandatory.

Up Žirovnica path down Zabreška (24.4.). Still lots of snow on Zabreška path. Crossings tricky, luckily no sinking. Good to know terrain because path not visible. Winter gear mandatory.

Good track on the Žirovnica path. No sinking even off the path.

From Prešernova koča towards Vrtača, Begunjščica and Košuta

There is quite a lot of bare ground under the hut.

There is more and more snow on the Zabreška pot.

The new Milan bench has been swept off the path.

Someone went too low and returned up here (looking back).

It broke through to my butt only once, otherwise like this.

No sign of the path. If you don't know where it runs, it's hard to spot.

From 1700 m the path is easier to follow.

Who would have thought there is so much snow up there.

The avalanche below Janez's bench is very extensive.

The avalanche is iced over and reaches almost to the concrete bajta. It is really huge. You are not safe even in the forest.

Even lower in the forest there is a lot of broken material.

The snow ends, or rather starts, at 1500 m.

On the old alpine pasture everything is green...

Conditions last week were like this. Žirovniška was dry to the gully between the Stols except for some patches; the gully was still very icy and it's not smart to slip there even if soft. Past the hut no problem. From the saddle to the top there was some snow, but no issue. Now it's probably melted quite a bit. The ridge to Potoški Stol and further to Vajnež was mostly dry; whatever snow there was could be avoided or wasn't on problematic spots, and the ridge over Vajnež was dry too. The slope of Vajnež still has patches that can be unpleasant. The descent from Stol to the ridge toward Potoški Stol is always a bit awkward because it's full of scree.

Yesterday up Zabreška. Snow on path for couple of steps but avoidable. Between Stols still quite a bit of snow. Summit almost dry. Thunder so down wet Žirovniška to snow end (ice axe!), then scree bit left to path 100m vert before Prižnica.

Yesterday 12.6. parked at Žaga. Up Zagon [and] dry hunter['s path] under Orličje. To snow. Trampled only upper loop Austrian[, I'm the] only one [I] see with full winter gear. Ferrata guys. Who can go even [down the] ass for me, important legs without crampons ahead. Head not [very] hard when [you] hit first rock... Upper under Vrtača [in the] gully snow then few patches lower over Šija to Izvir. Surprisingly few visitors for weekend. But more than [during] quarantine mežikanje

On Sunday 20 June to Stol then along the ridge to planina Seča then [to] Javorniški Rovt. Slopes full [of] beautiful alpine flowers. Despite muggy weather[, we were] satisfied with [the] tour.
On Stol disappointment[, the] Prešernova hut [was] closed. Opening [and] closing [of the] hut [is a] chapter [of its own] for [a] decade.
[They] stick to [the] schedule 20 June ?? to 20 Sept. [Whether a] nice spring or fall, they stick [to the] written.
Also[, on] Sunday lots [of] hikers on Stol. Many complaints [about the] closed hut.

Saturday family from Valvazorjev up Žirovniška to summit[, enjoyed wallcreepers]. Then to Prešernova hut overnight[, before that enjoyed sunset]. Morning[, while the] rest [of the] family [was] sleep[ing] sweet[, I went to] check new day nasmeh

We were also on Stol on Saturday, everything nice and fine, but this driving up to the last meter as far as it goes has crossed all boundaries. Not to mention the disregard for hikers when the car kicks up a cloud of dust... really a disaster how much metal on the hills...

2.9....Stol-circular path... In the morning it was already cold and Žirovnica path was damp. Little frost, views without proper light. Not many visitors at the top, also few at the hut. I descended via Zabreška, I like it better for going down to the valley, just a bit longer, the road to Valvasor as always rutted. Nice circular tour.. smile

Several years have passed since I walked the Zabreška path. Nice path with good views. Met quite a few on the late spring ascent. Warm for short sleeves and so it was at the top while sitting. Descended past Austrian summit on that gravel, quite demanding to the lower path.
