On Sat 04.05.2013 went from Mač to Kališče on Storžič. Path nicely passable (snow just remnants). Careful on descent as rocks still slippery some places. Lots of visitors on Storžič that day, season open

Don't know about north side, but J and JV tested today . Start Laško (to the end on gravel from Bašelj). Then first a minute or two back on road and right up towards Lovrenc, but soon off marked path right up trackless into hill. Higher up trackless to marked path from Lovrenc to Storžič. Then on that path to junction of marked paths (L - Javornik pasture, R - Kališče), but not continuing on either, straight up unmarked path to summit. Back down eastern ridge to Kališče and down to start. Path without issues, unmarked part up well trodden and easy to follow, no snow on whole path anymore... well, except a bit at Bašelj saddle, but pic will show seriousness . In short, nice loop in even nicer weather . At Kališče met group of park rangers in blue and I think also mountain rescuers on some training. Among them one known face from this forum... Good lads !!!

Do you perhaps know if there's still any snow on the path over Psico. If I understand right, no more in summit part of Storžič?? Would return via Kališče.

As far as I'm concerned, can't say 100% sure. But judging from afar, how it looked, how little snow left in SW gully and W ridge completely dry.... think it would go. But ?????

..well, I was on Javornik pasture in the afternoon. Looks like the ridge (path over Psica) is completely snow-free.. Only some snow left in the gully dropping from the summit to the pasture..

Has anyone hiked recently from Jekarica to Storžič? Is there still snow on the "north" side or so much that crampons and ice axe are needed?

Here's today with my mate on Storžič. We tackled it from Povele over Psica, descended the gully to Javornik pasture and on to Povlje. Psica ridge is completely snow-free, right under the summit need to make one (1!) step on snow. Path otherwise very pleasant and varied. In the gully to Javornik pasture there's still quite some snow, but path mostly avoids it and crosses it only at a couple short spots, where it's neither steep nor icy and goes without winter gear. Otherwise this descent is a bit awkward, cos at the top lots of nasty muddy scree that sticks to boots and increases slipperiness, lower part the gully completely wrecked by avalanches. Lower in the forest also quite some downed trees, doesn't look great but no special issues. Overall nice tour, highly recommend despite minor descent hassles in current conditions. By weekend situation might change...

Does anyone know how the last snowfall whitened Storžič? What are the winter/snow conditions like and which path is the most snow-free?

Yesterday's view of Storžič shows snow melting fast. Best path will surely be from Kališče. No sun this week though. I'm waiting too. Tempts me only the unmarked path from Lovrenc, which runs from Lovrenc right through the middle of Storžič. Don't know if it's described anywhere.

From St. Lovrenc church the path is marked further to the cross path. There step two paces right and straight up. It's trodden. Under summit even old markings can be sensed. If nowhere else, M&M surely described this path.

M&M description is actually very similar to the above note..short and concise.. In normal visibility won't miss it.. Too much talk about this approach not great either ..so it stays as is .. more remote
