Velkavrh...

As "sla" already mentioned, the path from Lovrenc to the junction where the unmarked path leaves the marked one is marked and described up to that junction also in the list of peaks for Storžič: Laško - Storžič (via Javornik). Among the photos in that route description you'll find the junction in pic 16, where it's also visible that there's a sign on the tree directing us to the unmarked path to the summit (right Kališče, left Javornik). Path is very well trodden and mostly easy to follow without issues. Still, as mentioned, recommend tackling it in good visibility, as it gets a bit less visible at one or two spots. And of course in dry conditions, as the trail climbs quite steeply and slip could happen quick. The path joins the marked trail just before the false summit of Storžič, which comes up the SW gully from Javornik or Velika Poljana direction.

For descent suggest path over Kališče to Laško, makes a nice loop. For this variant tip: park car at the parking lot at end of gravel road (Laško), as if going up over Kališče (e.g. past Košuta hospital or hunters'). We'll come down here later right to the car. But at start of path go back on gravel about 100m and leave road right towards Lovrenc (marked). After another approx 100m see wooden sign left towards Lovrenc, here can take shortcut and leave marked path and go straight up the wide gully. After about 5 min reach well trodden visible marked path leading along ridge from Lovrenc to Storžič... turn right and go.... nasmeh

Today, from in front of Brdo Castle, not a very encouraging view of Storžič. Snow starts at Kališče altitude. Tolsti vrh is also whitened, and above Hudičev boršt it's white too. Shame!

This afternoon on Storžič from Jekarica. Due to cloudy weather and summit wrapped in fog, I was alone up and down. As said - cloudy, at about 1800 m into cloud/fog to summit. Under summit still some snow, around 20-30 cm, and before patches of new snow. On path to Bašeljsko sedlo, cross some snowpatches; caution advised, also on ridge due to occasionally slippery rocks. Despite bad weather, nice afternoon tour on not too crowded but to me very nice path from Jekarica.

Great, thanks for the pictures, I was really curious about the conditions. Does anyone maybe have info on the status of the path through Žrelo to Storžič? Is there still a lot of snow and do you need crampons, ice axe or can it be done without?

Thanks!

Today it was possible without winter gearwink, despite some "tongue" of snowbig, caution needed as rocks are wet and slippery... good lucksmile

I expected more snow in Žrelo, but to the top, as @rozka writes, no major problems and ice axe stayed attached to backpack.
Also on descent over Škarjev rob no issues, since those remaining snow patches can be bypassed.
Had to hurry back down today due to pouring rain.

And then is it snow-free over Škarjev rob? There crampons not needed? Planning to go up Sunday and interested.

Yes, crampons are no longer needed for Škarjev rob either. There are still some snow patches that can be bypassed.

I was there last Friday through Žleb from the Povlje starting point to Storžič, and I don't believe I'd go again... not much snow left, only inside the path, but hard to walk, you almost lose the trail... IMO via Kališče is a much nicer path...

Today on the long-planned tour that snow had prevented. Started from Bašelj to Sv. Lovrenc and from there on the arduous steep path toward the junction for Kališče and planina Javornik. At the junction an unmarked path goes directly up to Storžič. It's nice, runs steeply uphill and toward the summit along a beautiful ridge that joins the path from planina Javornik below the summit. Today at least in the morning nice weather, just annoyingly windy. Due to the beautiful flowers accompanying the whole path, you quickly forget all troubles. Below the summit I got company - a flock of sheep, for which a friendly man below had already asked, whom I then met again at the hut on Kališče. I wasn't alone at the summit. I fed the mountain jackdaws with raisins literally from the hand. Then two hikers came puffing up from Kališče. The summit of Storžič is all white and yellow - beautiful. And Pyrenean stonecress adds a gentle purple color. On the way to Dom na Kališče I met more hikers. The hut is open. They were just trying to light the stove. Friendly service. Tomorrow they have a nature day. Too bad I didn't come tomorrow. I could have participated actively. Return via planina Kališče and at the planina right to Gradišče. Before Košuta hospital turn onto the unmarked path that also leads to Gradišče. There is a parking lot reachable by car. Then along the wide gravel road to the car. Beautifully spent day - nothing more.

Behind Bašeljski vrh is Mali Grintavec, between them is Mačensko sedlo.21

On the right side is also Cjanovca, the only one of these four peaks without a stamp and logbook, but it has a bench for pleasant rest.23

Planina Kališče.25
Down to Gradišče. Also on this path they placed a bench and the path is secured with cables at two places.26
Above Košuta hospital I turn left on the unmarked path to Gradišče. Both paths lead to the parking lot at Gradišče.27
This is already the Gradišče parking lot. To the left go on the marked path past the partisan Košuta hospital, to the right turn uphill on the unmarked quite steep path.28

Since my buddy and I chatted in the car in the morning, we started the tour under planina Javornik instead of at Dom pod Storžičem. sad
First descent to the Dom and then onward through Žrelo to the top. Three snow patches. At the bottom at the entry, in the middle, and below the exit from Žrelo. For the last one, you need to be quite careful. We sat at the top for quite a while, but we weren't visited by any other hikers.
We descended via Škarjev rob to the saddle under planina Javornik. The fixed cable on the path toward the saddle is in poor condition.
Weather excellent, company too! wink

I climbed up that nasty ridge and watched you all the time. Twenty years ago I went up several times via Žrelo. Since then never again. I even took my thirteen-year-old son to Storžič back then. Now I prefer going up from Jezersko via Jekarica as long as the road is open.

A bit late posting the reply but anyway. On Wednesday 12.6. I was on Storžič via Žrelo, descended via Škarjev rob. Nice tour, garmont described the snow conditions perfectly accurately, I'm attaching some photos.

We also did this route yesterday: up through Žrelo and down via Škarjev rob. As previous ones wrote - those few snow patches can be crossed without problem.

It was fun and just right strenuous - for opening the new hiking and mountaineering season smile

On the path via Škarjev rob there is no snow anywhere anymore. But there is some newly deposited untrampled scree and rubble, so caution is needed in a few places. The mentioned fixed cable in the upper part holds well, but it is indeed a bit loose.

I agree with what's written above, ascending via Žrelo today it was possible to completely avoid the snow patch (I'd say it's around 1500 m a.s.l.), the descent via Škarjev rob was really loaded with larger and smaller stones, so caution and (also) helmet won't hurt. big
