Some go to their house mountain early in the morning, but I usually do it late afternoon. That's how it was today too. The view through the window promised a nice end to the day. I drive to Laški and go straight to the top. Descend via Bašelj vrh, over Kališče and past p. hospital Košuta. The last part of the path dragged terribly and I was a bit sorry I didn't return the same way.

Tomorrow I'd like to go to Storžič via Žrelo. Can someone compare the difficulty with the path to Ledinski vrh via Slovenska or with the path to Mala Mojstrovka via unmarked over Šitna glava. Thanks

The path is steep but perfectly secured, of course at exposed places. If the path to Ledine didn't cause you problems, in my opinion Žrelo won't either.

I agree, I don't think there'll be problems. The path is well secured, only the crumbling is greater than on the Slovenian one and the path is a bit longer and at the end you have almost an hour along the ridge, which is nicely secured at key points. Nice tour, for descent I suggest Over Škarjev rob and you'll have a nice circular tour. Good luck and lots of enjoyment.

Thanks MaxSi, Domch and Janez Novak - today we went to Storžič - up through Žrelo and down through Škarjev rob - fully good. Žrelo didn't pose any problems for us. My husband has a bit of trouble if it's precipitous on both sides, but after a few meters of walking along the ridge everything was ok. Great tour!

Great, as long as you enjoyed it! The path through Žrelo is an ideal training tour for more demanding ascents. Greetings to all.

For the end of the vacation I climbed Storžič on Sunday (30.6.). Since I came from Austria I stayed overnight in the hut and saved on fuel and time, although the drive home wouldn't have been that long either. Prices at Dom pod Storžičem don't seem high to me (sleeping with PZS card say 10 EUR in my own room). In the morning the caretaker prepares breakfast for me. At breakfast I meet again the friendly spaniel I met last year and who was 'scaring' around the hut at night too. He is really calm, cute and the exact opposite of say that mongrel at Okrešelj because of which I no longer stop there. I pet him a bit then head off on the tour. I head towards Žrelo. When I come out of the forest and continue a bit towards the secured part the first views of the Karavanke open up: Stol, Vrtača, more and more of Košutnik peaks with gaining height,... I continue and reach the protections. The path is nicely secured, exception is that crumbly part right before the final chains i.e. the final (again nicely secured) wall that leads to the ridge. On the ridge a nice view opens to Kranj and the Ljubljana basin. This (and of course the view back) promises good vistas from the top. I continue along the ridge. From there it's a bit easier, I remember the path from last year when I went up through Psica. Two chains and some free-climbing spots otherwise mostly exposed walking. By the way chains: On all of them you can nicely clip in with self-belay and free climb beside them like on foreign vias ferratas, annoying only because the pitons are too close together and you have to reclip too often. Such climbing is slightly harder at most at the last two chains before the ridge junction and at the second chain from the junction (i.e. last before summit) and on the return through Psica also at that one backwards. Well, on descent or when the chain goes down I also nicely grabbed it and didn't do much gymnastics At the top there was a nice panorama: Julian Alps were a bit in fog, but behind the Karavanke (beautifully visible from Stol to Peč) you could see directly to the Tures with Hohalp! To the south view to Škofja Loka hills, Krim and also Kum, to the east of course Kočna, Krvavec,... in short everything visible from there on KSA. For descent I chose along the ridge through Psica. Back to the junction with Žrelo it took quite some time and was a bit annoying. Then further along the ridge nice walking for a while but even then there are quite a few 'advanced' spots that are somewhat scary especially because you have to climb down (backwards) on exposed terrain. Definitely not easy, a bit annoying but still no regrets. Views from the ridge deep on both sides of course. When I reach the last chain (actually the only one from the junction with Žrelo) on the path I breathe a sigh of relief as I know it was earlier in the ascent. Really after climbing it there's still a short 'backwards' descent then another two, three minutes to the top of Psica, which starts (or ends, depending on who you ask ) the ridge. Just like last year also this year I met no one on the Psica - Žrelo junction ridge section. On Psica I catch my breath, snack - but know that now a somewhat annoying steep descent to Poljana awaits me. But here too the saying I heard from someone on descent from Mangart applies: 'Long live the poles!' They would of course ease the ridge path too but what when they would only hinder me in climbing (especially downhill) or I'd have to fold and unfold them all the time. From Poljana then a nice forest path to Dom pri Storžiču. There I eat a good jota and drink a beer then home.

Today nice circular tour to Storžič. Starting point: hut under Storžič - Škarjev rob - along the ridge over Psica - Velika Polana - hut under Storžič. Weather was nice, few hikers today. Nice greetings

I'm tempted to go to Storžič tomorrow through Žrelo and back through Škarjev rob. Would anyone join me? We planned with partner together but he'll obviously have to work, alone it's not so interesting for me to hike.

Nice greetings, on Saturday we plan a trip to Storžič from Jekarica; is the road really closed on Saturday already, or can one still drive to the parking lot? Thanks for any info!

Last week with the team we visited Storžič via the path through Žrelo, in between we also popped to Psica and then looped the path through Škarjev rob. More about the path and photos I posted at the link: Ponovno v Storžičevo Žrelo

I'm interested in information about the road closure to the starting point for the path over Jekarica to Storžič, that is from the direction of Sp. Jezersko. On the way to the starting point there is a barrier, I'm wondering if it's open? Thanks for the info if anyone knows.

Can't find info anywhere - will there be the traditional holy mass on Storžič this year on Saturday after Veliki šmarn? At what time?

I'd gladly go to mass, but unfortunately no transport. Anyone heading to Storžič for mass this Saturday to pick me up too, I'm from Ljubljana (Tacen).
