Has anyone been to Storžič from Kališče this weekend? What are the conditions, where does the snow start? Thanks!

Only short sections of the path are snowy (some gullies and parts of the ridge). First snow is already at Bašelj Pass, but just below the summit of Storžič a large part of the path is bare. I estimate that between Bašelj Pass and the summit only 10..15% of the path is under snow.

Today I visited Storžič via the ridge path; really noteworthy snowfields are only on the first half of the Bašelj Pass - Storžič section. On about three of them more caution is needed, and if frozen without crampons and ice axe it is not possible.

Hello, does anyone have info on conditions through the gully on Storžič? Possible without ice axe and crampons yet? Planning trip for Sunday, info would help. Thanks, regards

No way through Žrelo without crampons and ice axe! And, of course, knowledge of using them.

Today in the morning to Storžič. Start in Laškim above Bašelj then past Sv. Lovrenc. From Sv. Lovrenc marked path to junction for Kališče and Javornik pasture. Straight unmarked path on central ridge - I call it middle. Path is a bit steep-tiring. Runs mainly on pleasant ridge to saddle where path from Javornik and Kališče joins. Path bare. Morning from junction small ice crystals on path - slightly frozen. Where paths join snowfield across saddle. Frozen but no crossing issues. Below summit another small snowfield no issues to top. From saddle to summit hurricane wind this morning. Had to bend a bit for less resistance. Also so cold, quick gloves, hat with earflaps, wind jacket. Top just stop to change, sign stamp and back. Morning high clouds. Return on ridge sun out. Camera failed, pics only from last year. One month later same path last year.

@Velkavrh which path, apart from your unmarked one, doesn't require winter gear (ice axe, crampons)? Thanks for the reply.

sanda has already answered you Ninđa. Besides these two paths to the top is also used from Jekarice-Jezersko -Kanonir, but joins the usual from Kališče at Bašeljsko sedlo. From Mač you have two accesses too - via Kozjek and usually to Kališče and on. That via Kozjek joins the usual one at Kališče itself. You can treat yourself to a whole day starting from Jakoba via Javorov vrh, Cjanovce, Srednji vrh, Mali Grintovec, Bašeljska vrh from which you descend to Bašeljsko sedlo. So plenty of accesses to the top. These three from that side - more Tržič - after so-called hunting - over Škarjev rob, to Žrelo, to Psico - have frozen snow in morning hours per info. L.P.
