_sandra_, we're going to this peak for the first time and we'll probably go from home below Storžič. Is it better to go via Žrelo or Škarjev rob?

I'm also planning to go up soon, otherwise the path through Žrelo is a bit more climbing or secured with cables. Our 6-year-old really likes it. lp

Today on Storžič via Žrelo, on the path there are two snowfields ca 5m long right at the start and somewhere in the middle, but no problem crossing... back via planina Javornik and Velika and Mala Poljana. From top you see path via Škarjev rob still quite snowy so don't recommend without winter gear...

There's still quite some snow especially upper part of path via Škarjev rob also in Žrelo on traverse at cables and just above quite steep snowfield. Lower pics taken Wed 4.6. from Bela peč.

At the traverse there is really a snowfield, but you don't cross it at all, but go behind it because at the rock it's already melted...

Today I did the tour Mače - Mačenska pot - Hudičecv Boršt - Cjanovca - Srednji Vrh - Mali Grintovec - Bašeljski vrh - Storžič - Kališče - Mače. The tour is quite long and strenuous (more than 2000m ascent), but very nicely cleared and equipped with markings and signs. It was a pleasure to hike in these areas. Conditions excellent, but it was quite warm. The mentioned path is really very nice, I recommend it. Lots of people at Kališče and Storžič, elsewhere just a few.

I did exactly the same path two weeks ago and you're right about the ascent meters. Quite a few more than on most Triglav routes

Evening on Storžič from Dom pod Storžičem. Access via Žrelo possible without winter gear, but at the start still a few meters towards the top under snow (with crampons and ice axe you can go directly up the snow almost to the saddle). Descent via Škarjev rob advised against without winter gear, as there is still lots of snow, and even though it is melting the slope is such that at least an ice axe is good to have with you.
