To Triglav?

Žiga22 I don't know if you wrote in general or had me in mind when you wrote about whiners who dump their unpreparedness and incompetence on others. It's clear to me that responsibility for choosing the path and hiking in mountains is on me and no one else. But I like to get various infos from different sources, as it usually helps with decision (which is still mine). That's why I asked - maybe someone went over Prag in recent days and could describe the conditions on the path a bit more, but apparently no one had more info - at least I didn't understand any answer that way nasmeh

I think that of all infos, the best is knowledge about oneself and one's abilities.

I don't know why you're so afraid of some snow on the path. If there's some, take half kg of ice axe to the backpack, chop steps if none, but for our mountains I doubt they're not already made somewhere. Regarding data on hiked paths there's plenty too, including Igor's from the forum among others. If you're not even up to that, there's also the south side of Julijci allowing normal access to the mountain heart.

Here I'd add about the keepers too,
I wanted to climb Triglav myself, saw it's clouding up, asked at Planika hut if it makes sense to go up and they say nothing worse, still I decide for the summit and shortly after the hut it starts drizzling and I turn back, when I saw what a bad storm it was, I was glad my reason won, so I think in such cases keepers should care more for hikers' safety, because even helicopter can't take off in storm to rescue someone

You see ominous clouds over Triglav, then the keepers are to blame because they let you go up? zavijanje z očmi

Planika is in the "ideal" spot for giving
weather information for Triglav. Can you really see well what's coming from the north???
You shift responsibility to the hut warden zavijanje z očmi

In Austria I went up the mountain Svinja. In the hut below it the warden despite black clouds said there'd be no rain and there really wasn't. If he wasn't sure he'd probably advise against the summit path.

In the hut below Grosser Buchstein the warden advised against summit visit cuz two days before he wanted to go up via ferrata (yeah abroad wardens sometimes go out themselves at least to their hut's home mountain) and hit ice ('ganz glatte scheibe!'). Since it was June the ice probably melted in two days as previous day and the day I wanted to go were relatively warm but still he advised against ascent even tho I'd already spent two and a half hours walking to the hut!

As I say the difference between regular barkeep and hut warden is huge. At least in other alpine countries.

In the US in their national parks the rangers there even have legal powers not just to advise against but to outright ban the trail in case of bad weather bad conditions lack of gear or if they judge you're not experienced enough for the climb.

Responsibility sure if sth happens is on them. Not on you of course. US is so-called free country and basically you can go wherever and noone can hold you (and you're responsible yourself). But to the rescuers who'd come save you in accident risking their lives.

It's really naive to expect all hut wardens' advice to be spot on. Even meteorologists, top weather experts, err sometimes. They can't pinpoint location, time, intensity of a local thunderstorm even an hour ahead. Wardens don't walk surrounding trails daily to report conditions perfectly since they change fast. Warden doesn't know the hiker, how experienced, what fitness. Some go to Triglav almost any weather, others need perfect. Warden info is just additional, we assess how much to heed, no way rely on it if wrong or demand his responsibility. Still can turn back anytime if deem continue too risky. Own safety solely our responsibility regardless others' advice except guided by qualified guides we trusted.

Nice greetings, on 11.8. we'd head to Triglav via Plemenice and return the next day via Tominšek path. Curious what the path is like for a team that's already gone up via Prag and Valley of Seven Lakes, and if we need any winter gear.
