First recommendation would be company of experienced hiker/mountaineer. And one-day path won't be short. nasmeh

Over Prag or via Tominškova. Both variants well marked and protections in good condition.

But are Čez Prag and Tominškova recommended for someone who "has little experience with hills"?

No, you need proper technical gear and know how to use it. On both paths, as well as from Triglavski dom at Kredarica to the Triglav summit.

I agree, for the first time you need to choose an "easier" approach (e.g. from Pokljuka), which is time-consuming but not technically demanding like Tominškova and Prag. You need fitness, broken-in shoes, to endure the effort, and it's sensible to overnight. As Janez says, the ascent from Kredarica is all chain, pegs, climbs, height... for someone not used to it, it can be stressful, the head must stay maximally focused on movement all the time. Especially since there is a crowd at this time, even on weekdays (yesterday, e.g.). I myself went for two days the first time, up via Prag and down to Pokljuka, then one-day tours (Tominšek-Prag, Plemenice-Prag, Tominšek-Tominšek), but I'm used to mountains and really long tours. For a beginner this is NOT. It's highly recommended to have a companion who has experience with Triglav. Regarding gear, everyone decides for themselves, I have it on every climbing path, but it must be known how to use it, learning it on the way to Triglav is not smart. It can be done without, of course, but everyone answers for themselves and knows for themselves. And what is easy for someone can be extremely difficult for someone else, sometimes even impossible. Respect for mountains is needed, and when we head high, we need to be prepared for them.

Enka

my opinion:

for someone going to Triglav for the first time, the path over Prag is ideal.
because if it breaks here already, it's clear that they are not ripe for Triglav, which can't be done without pegs and chains anyway.

if they manage the path over Prag, it's good training before continuing.

Hmm. I'd suggest Kot. The path is interesting, not boring like some Pokljuka, and much easier than all variants from Vrata. From Kredarica up it gets a bit steeper, but nothing scary.

"Short" variant to Triglav in one day?
If you mean time-wise, with proper fitness it can hold true. But the path itself is by no means short. And quite some elevation for one day.
Otherwise @ZeK wrote it well. If you can't make it over Prag, you got nothing to seek above Kredarica either.

Pokljuka is nice too. The path is longer, but there are quite some nice views of the hills above Veliko polje, Srenjski preval ...

Otherwise I recommend before Triglav some shorter and easier secured path - Storžič over Žrelo, Peca via difficult, Raduha via very difficult ... and similar idyllic nice paths without crowds. When I go to Triglav every few years, the worst is always waiting when some see the ledge for the first time and don't know if to go on or stop.

Yes, especially on descent it's gorgeous. I think you recommend this mainly to those who want to make sure the person never goes to the mountains again wink

@bolhica

Lidija, given you're from Maribor, the way to any starting point will already take you quite some time. And wherever you start, the path will be long and strenuous despite fitness. My advice would be to take two days for the first path to Triglav and consider ascent from Zadnjica via Dolič, where you'd overnight the evening before. I know several who didn't have much experience with difficult paths and only occasionally visited mountains, chose this path, and were extremely satisfied after the tour with their first visit to daddy. Good luck wherever the path takes you !

Surely best choice over Prag, and for gear you know yourself what you need. If fitness is no problem, you'll be back in Vrata by afternoon with a cold beerwink
Good luck

When in 1991 I first went to the mountains and it was Triglav via Tominškova descent over Prag in one day, no problem at all really, but I come from a farm home and have peasant smarts velik nasmeh. The more you complicate, the worse it is, zavijanje z očmi

Fitness is no problem ..... Sentence that many write, but in mountains you don't need only fitness from activities you do on the flat, it's a completely different activity. Walking is on rocky terrain, scree, ... I just want to tell you that fitness in the valley is not equal to fitness in mountains. My first ascent to Triglav was as part of 3-day trip in TNP.
Next ones were of course one-day. And considering I'm from Ptuj, driving also takes a lot of time.

Ugh, I see I wrote my question poorly. So to correct a bit. I've been to Triglav already 3x (from Pokljuka, from Krma and via Triglav Lakes). But true, quite some years have passed since then. This time I'd like something more demanding, so I'm thinking Tominšek or over Prag (if I find some alpinist for company maybe even north face). Wedges and ledges don't scare me, I have some climbing experience too (mainly on artificial walls, a bit outside). As I wrote, fitness objectively no problem.

@bolhica: wisely decide and plan experiencing the path and especially the peak for two days. We don't rush to mountains headlong! And as they say, fitness in valley can't compare to fitness in mountains. And walking on rocks, rubble, along cable up and down is no joke, not a stroll! This time I took a friend to the top of Slovenia, and looking through her eyes, ascent in one day is enormous effort, both physical and mental.
Dejan-Redbull, hats off to all his feats, but it's necessary to mention the fact, Dejan is a runner, we are hikers.
Triglav deserves to experience it in all beauty and that the path and summit remain in nice, lasting memory for you, not as torment and that "never again!" Good luck on the path!

If you think you'd be able to climb the north face with a mountaineer's support, then I reckon you won't have problems on Tominšek's or via Prag, solo or with company.

@jvali, if fitness ain't a problem, then a one-day trip to Triglav can be way more pleasant than a two-day one...

Totally agree with you, spending two days in this madhouse around Triglav - in the huts is real horror.eek
