ribič88, I think sleeping in front of Kredarica won't happen . I too thought I'd sleep right in front of the hut and we were up there last weekend of August when it was really hot and everyone advised against it . Maybe next year if there's a chance .

Thanks for all the congratulations. I think we paid 58€ for 1 double room per night. We booked beforehand by phone. They are really very friendly. I don't know though how much it costs for shared bunks. Snoring and clatter you have to take into account. Trash on Planika I didn't see it seemed very clean to me. On Kredarica full of trash under benches outside. Maybe also because there are more people there. But that's no excuse, people should know that trash is for the valley!

Then you really slept cheaply . I think for that price, for comparison, you already get in Portorož a daily half-board at some less prestigious elite hotel. For that price you couldn't even just sleep for half a month, which represents a solid salary in Slovenia. Sleep in the car in the valley or under the overhang of some rock near the hut if the full accommodation price.

Then just go to Portorož

I don't know.. I was up there Thursday/Friday and stayed at Dolič's.. Overnight 10€ + 1€ because we were in our own room, goulash with polenta 10€, fine Turkish coffee 3€, ... The hut itself nicely arranged, and the caretakers very friendly. Next time when I go s5 to the top I'll definitely stay there Oh and my pics from the ascent on M-foto.si

I've said several times that we're in capitalism and that's the 'take it or leave it' system. Prices are market. People buy. By the way, comparable to those in Austria as I saw on recent hikes there. And to be clear: Dolomites are even more expensive! Marky, did you ask before how much coffee costs or demand a receipt? Goulash with polenta seems quite realistic price if I look at those on Kredarica. @crowds on Matterhorn (link by GregorC): Those who really hike to enjoy mountains hike around without guides, of course on tours they're capable of. I won't say alone because we've debated that and for such ascent as Matterhorn it's really smart to have someone for belay. Otherwise if you have someone who constantly tells you what to do and pulls you up on rope, what do you get from it? It's not your ascent, your experience. You can't identify with it even if guide doesn't rush like above. You don't strive for it. No experience when you search passages, tension rope, belay... That's then really your tour, your experience! It's similar if agency prepares whole trip. Not just transport and sleep, which maybe makes sense to leave to them, but also everything, where you'll go, what you'll see... Or if you go to real estate agency and want turnkey house. They build it and you move in. No soul in it. Not your trip, your house. Can't identify with it.

VanSims, if I'm honest.. no, because I didn't care.. You can't always drink real Turkish coffee at 2120m, so.. Adnap, exactly so.. Thanks for the pic and you know no problem for Maraschino.. next time we meet you get s5 that's us and another group we met and got to know under the cliff.

Hello! I'm wondering if ascent to Triglav on Thursday makes sense given we don't like snow conditions? Do you think snow will melt by then? On Kredarica I saw there's no more but I have no experience how fast it disappears higher up... Thanks for answers and best regards

@Manja I think no need to think just foot on path and just some more warm clothes and gloves don't forget to take with you. My visits to Triglav were always with light snow and always unique. Views such that you never forget them. Good luck and safe steps.

Well, let me add something to this topic too, ... those of you in the TNP area or at least close to home, it's no problem for you to hop to some peak, for us it's far in all respects, so we opt for early rising, long drive, 2 and a half hours, just to be somewhere where you find something your soul seeks ... all that fuss around conquering the summit and trophies is superfluous to me, since I go to the mountain for myself, not for others ... Last year, when we were on Triglav for the first time, no one even christened us, enough to cry ... Cheers!

And who knows if there's any snow on top of Triglav?

@jprim, why did you go down so quickly, you could have waited for me @Manja, not much snow fell, or rather it seems more like slush to me, if going on Thursday I recommend from Planika up, because it's on the sunny side and will surely be dry, from the Kredarica direction the first part is more in the shade and there it often freezes, and can be nasty.

So what hike to Triglav is recommended this weekend for "irregular" hikers?

@otiv and @IgorZlodej, thanks for the replies. We plan from Planika, so that's one more +. I've been to Triglav many times myself, but this time we're going with two newbies, so I was a bit in doubt. If anyone by chance doesn't change their mind, we're heading to Triglav on Thursday.

@Marky: That's true! Here you rarely even get Turkish coffee in the valley. Ah, where are those wanderings around the Balkans, where even in the smallest pub they ask you: "turska ili espresso?"
