@palček plezalček, it wasn't marmots whistling at you; they go into hibernation in October, November. You surprised chamois, they whistle too, they really like to hang out on the southern grasses of Tosc. The chamois whistle is gentler and more drawn out, while the marmot whistle is loud, and in short sequence. It goes right through the ears, if I may put it that way.

Palček plezalček I'm not wrong what pikica1 wrote holds completely true.Marmots can sleep up to six months or even a few more days per year.Just google a bit so you don't have to check with me.Nice greetings and safe steps to all hill climbers.

Thanks to both for the lesson, although you didn't fully convince me, because the whistle was exactly as pikica1 says - "goes right through the ears". Anyway, I didn't see it/her, because it was a moonless night (well, probably a crescent moon) and even though I encountered them much more often in the Carnic Alps than at home, I wouldn't dare claim you're wrong. For those unfamiliar who are interested in marmots: Marmota marmota

@palček plezalček you can believe us, @dragonar and I speak the truth You'll convince yourself, I know that. But in broad daylight you gotta hear chamois and marmot too, to see who's calling out Marmots already wrapped the chocolate they planned for this year, since St. Nicholas already brought it to those who were good all year. Now marmots just drag shit

Today already almost at six in the morning from Rudno polje to Tosc. The road is icy, so better leave cars at the biathlon center. The path to planina Jezerce is icy only in a few places - caution there. From planina Jezerce to the top of Studorski preval there's snow. It's compact, doesn't sink, not icy. For the descent, at least small crampons are needed. From Studorski preval onwards the path is dry. Short icy sections don't bother. Towards Tosc the path is dry and that little snow to the top doesn't bother. Unfortunately fog started at the top. But we admired Triglav.

Today to Tosc via usual path. Path passable to the turnoff for Tosc without crampons. For continuing, however, they are obligatory as despite south exposure snow is quite hard in places. Views today phenomenal again.

... Beautiful photos Otiv, there is really an extraordinary amount of diverse flowers from Vodnikov dom to Studorski preval. Just looking at the flowers is a nice trip.

Majdag, thanks. With years a person starts thinking differently and peaks are not in the foreground, but all that can be seen up to the peak.

Today from the end of the road on Pokljuka via Konjščica and Studorski preval I went to Tosc, then back to Studorski preval and also to Ablanca. It was -3°C in the morning, weather ideal, snow started somehow on Konjščica. I waded about ankle-deep to below Jezerca, where the path from Rudno polje comes. From there the path was trodden. On Studorski preval I overtook a group of hikers who had trodden the path and then waded again about to the boot edge or a bit more ahead to the branch for Tosc and upwards. From Mali Tosc the snow became crusty, here and there it broke through to my thighs, and it also clouded over. Without wands I would have had problems finding the path. There was fog at the top, here and there the view towards Zgornja Krma opened. I returned the same way, at Studorski preval via the crumbly path I also turned to Ablanca, which was fully enveloped in fog. Snow was wet and melting, not the easiest ascent in such conditions. From Studorski to Konjščica one big mudslide, then mud and slippery roots . Hikers whom I overtook on Studorski preval were young guys from Ukraine. They walked slowly, two had helmets, one was without backpack, poles or ice axe, the third had carabiners, prusiks and some other metal dangling from his belt... They asked me if this is the path to Triglav. I subtly tried to hint that Triglav in such conditions requires some experience, but they replied that they have gear... Hope all OK.

Addition to the story about the Ukrainians! I also parked at the parking under Konjščica seemingly 20 min behind j. Heading to Veliki Draški vrh and only fog at the top. I also overtook this other solo hiker who had trodden most of the path for me. This eighth Ukrainian, the van driver who drove the guys non-stop from Ukraine 16 hrs, I overtook on the path from Rudno polje. Apparently sent the boys ahead towards Vodnikov dom because (over)sleepy. Saw the seven at Studorski preval from afar, walking with Ihor Karabin, the leader's name. Big league mountain guide. Was on Everest, last week Denali, this year 15x Mt Blanc etc.... Does he handle clients professionally? Hinting current conditions to a Himalayan guy made no sense..... hope they returned safely....

Yesterday we set off from Rudno polje to Tosc. The road was partially icy, but we managed to drive to the starting point. A little snow all along the path, a bit more towards Studorski preval, then patches again. The path is mostly dry up to 100m below the false summit. At the top most snow on leeward slopes, as it was drifted. On exposed slopes completely frozen or none at all. No crampons needed. Views were magnificent, despite occasional unpleasant wind.

From Rudno polje to Tosc. Path completely dry, somewhat frozen towards Studorski preval and with a few snow patches right at the top (much less than in photos from a month ago). Probably the last day this season with such conditions in the high mountains.

17.10.2017 Ascent from Krma valley, Begunjska vratca - in wonderful sunny weather to Vernar 2225m, descent back to the vratca and from Begunjska vratca ascent to 2275m high Tosc. Descent to path Rudno polje Vodnikov dom, ascent again to Begunjska vratca and descent - return to Krma. This hiked path is not too visited, there are quite demanding passages in between.
