You two must have been (fitness-wise) well sharpened, because at this time of year the approach is very demanding. Snow late in spring makes the tour much easier, the rocks in the gully above Krnica are nicely covered, the steep scree above the bivouac is also easier to cross in hard snow, let alone the 'red gully' towards MMP. Otherwise I'd rather visit Oltar instead, it's more 'at hand'. Shame the pics are so small.

@lijaneja Yeah we were thinking it would be better to do such a tour in winter... But you have to create a bit of extra effort Click on the picture in the gallery, it enlarges

Awesome! I always respect a sober decision to turn back. As I understood, the cause was sugary snow on the steep slope, without a firmer base?

Once again, great ascent. The decision couldn't be better than what you did, no point in risking. I know well myself Good luck

@lijaneja yes that's right, nothing to properly kick or step into, maybe someone more experienced would say otherwise, but to me it was too much of an obstacle, especially thinking about the descent thanks Dejan, good luck to you too!

Nice sunny day. A bit in crampons, then boots and skis. Conditions for walking and skiing super, but slowly running out of snow for the lower right gully.

On Sunday 23.8.2020 I set off with my friend to Velika Martuljška Ponca, in the morning I had quite a bad feeling as bad weather was forecasted. We went on the most accessible path. From the hut in Krnica to Velika Dnina it's a broken stream bed, very slow progress there, later it climbs even more through the pines and elevation gains quickly. In Velika Dnina after 400m of scree (snow usually lingers here) we turn left above the snowfield. The first technical part is very loose, stick to the left, just a bit before the top turn right. There's a cairn there. From here the little path is clearly visible. Following the path you'll reach the second technical part, lots of pegs hammered in this part for later rope descent *Rope not necessary* (Everyone for themselves) we used it but could have managed without. When you get to the top of this part turn right to the traverse, belay station well visible too. Then straight to the summit and one more cross to the left but nothing difficult anymore. For descent rope not needed, but good to have at least 20m handy since pegs are hammered often. (This is description of our path, everyone for themselves, just described our path) Good luck!!
