Yesterday was the right day to escape from foggy valleys to sunny and briefly cloudy planina. On the plateau there is quite a bit of frozen and icy snow, more than expected but unfortunately too little for skiing. Where possible, we used crampons when walking, otherwise cautious walking on slippery snow.

Ideal day for exercise. When you're not hindered by cold or heat, snow or mud, rain or fog, although there was a bit of each, only the wind was completely still. Over Pirčev vrh to Črnušev and stop at Gradišče. Apart from the staff (hut keeper, cable car operator and bus driver) I saw only two more people zadrega

But there were twice as many of us at the feast by Teran. nasmeh

I scared more than a hundred of them during the descent.

From Poljanski rob it would be good for sledding.

But it still pulls me up and up, where I really feel the best. Today Planina was sunny too, only occasionally a bit colder so I had to 'arm' myself extra. The snow left is melting fast, first snowdrops already in the vase. Won't repeat about the crap up there, and for the cable car and bus sometimes I have a bad feeling like they run just for me. velik nasmeh

Jarški clear, despite the warm bread oven I stay outside on the sheltered bench.

On the two-thousander there is a bit more snow.

Someday I must photograph all the 'crowns'. I think there are about five or six of them on Planina.

It would be a sin not to start the new year on my most visited hill, so at half past eight at minus five degrees in full battle gear I head from Calcita uphill. Who would hike in nature after the longest night and hard frost, jezik

so I meet few people. Path nicely trodden, like walking on sandpaper no. 24. nasmeh

Also across Pasje pečine super, there was ice but not smooth. After forest exit Siberian winter with cold and wind, but warm bread oven in Jarski dom outweighs it all. Stage to Gradišče even more wintry, great coffee at colleagues' holiday hut hit fertile ground. Then slide to Šimnovec and flight to valley, where I hitch to car in a minute.
No snow on Planina practically, but ground deeply frozen, recommend mini crampons to the elderly and of course warm clothes.

Sun rays are trying to break through the clouds.

Today from Ušivec across Mala planina to Gradišče and back. A few cm of fresh and trodden snow covered sections of old ice, no slipping. Walk was actually very pleasant, even a bit crunchy. Met about a hundred walkers.

Won't discuss views much velik nasmeh

Today was an ideal day to test gear. Up the hill with double gloves, mask and double gaiters. Even my own mother wouldn't recognize me mežikanje

. Snow powdery, above Mickina hut I make my own track. All the way to Jarski which is closed, no photo as fingers probably wouldn't recover. Extend past Črnuški, where smoke from stove shows they're the only real ones up there, since in Domžalec the stove was even colder than in July. jezen

Don't stay long, don't know conditions to Gradišče; about half way on frozen ground, hardly any powder as strong wind blew it away, bit on hard snow, some steps icy too. Also on descent to Šimnovec breaking trail, lots of drifted snow there, gaiters did excellent job, crampons stayed in pack.

Poles lead to a dead end, as Jarški is mostly closed.

On the hillock Črnuški the flags are completely torn, circles around the windows will of course remain.

Yesterday another ramble around Velika Planina, which is suspiciously becoming a habit for me. We left the car at Rakova Ravan, then for a while along the road to Ušivec and soon sharply left towards Gojska Planina. At the turn-off for Domžalski Dom I spotted the last living soul, then no one to the end of the trail. At the top of Bukovec a strong gust of wind hit us, but it calmed quickly. The descent was leisurely; in Tiha Dolina we paused briefly by the crumbling cable car hut. Then we pushed up towards Mali Griči, where a small but splendid and nearly untouched stash of pršut was waiting just for us. We happily devoured it two or three times. Mačkin Kot parking is a few minutes around one or two corners, the road from there to Ušivec and beyond is driven on but not plowed. It goes a bit up and down at first, from Ušivec only downhill. Comfortable, but nothing special.

We gauged the cold at about -8 or -9 degrees, colder by the gauges. Snow on the trail blown to around 10 or 15 cm, in places more or less as shaped by the wind. But enough for carefree touring on touring skis. It felt somehow primeval, truly original to me; skis were probably used mostly for travel back then. And we viewed the Kamnik-Savinja Alps from an angle I'd rarely seen before. Let the photos say more.

From Zeleni Rob we heard snowmobile rattling from afar; also on the road to Ušivec a noisy driver approached us, but turned before us, leaving us in a cloud of stinking exhaust.

Daily parking above Podvolovljek is 12€, annual pass 40€, road is plowed. Other side under cable car parking is free.

Right Lepenatka and left sometimes slightly tricky Rogatec.

Ha, Jure; If Vel'ka has become a habit for you, it's already under my skin smile

. Excellent terrain for movement in nature, reliable Črnuški Dom for a break, minimal costs, no dangers.
I start at the same time as on Thursday, a bit less frost, so no mask, but chains over Primož, walking much easier and faster that way. Even the sun accompanied me, but of course no power. Part of the bench by the radiator in Črnuški I already appropriated a bit wink

; after the usual ritual I leave the warm room in half an hour. Continue with chains, though not strictly needed when crossing Planina, except on the descent from Gradišče, where bad ice. Met fewer hikers than fingers on one hand, cable car and bus on schedule.
Perfect little cappuccino at Teran and another super day done.

Planšarija, where in summer you could get cheese when the lady was still alive.

I don't know what this net is for. Stranger, like rotary flags a bit higher up.

Even on Veliki vrh half a kilometer higher there is none.

In the amphitheater there is just enough of it to cover the planike (cow pats).

Dark hill in front, vertically below the eastern Vilicami (2335) is Rzenik 1833.

Jermanova vrata are also heavily drifted.

Right below the top of the ridge (Zeleni rob) it gave out.

Since Friday I only went to Mickina Bajta (cable car out), today I head up with even more gusto. No extra gear needed, except obligatory dry clothes, changed this time by the warm stove at Jarški Dom. Again preferred via Pirčev Vrh, as that path needs less attention and caution than over Pasje Pečine. No wind or mist nearby, where ice was, it was the real deal. Cable car full, to Calcit hitchhiking.

The snow is mostly frozen and holds a person's weight.

In Domžalec the bread oven is surely cold again.

Quite a few spectators safely behind the fence.

At the top of Grinte it's not very pleasant.

'Action' will start only in five months.

Only Kalška and Mrzla gora do not appear.

The cable car entered it after just ten seconds.

In the last five years I've done the path from Calcit to Velika Planina (Gradišče) more than 300 times. At least my Garmin shows so. Until now I haven't boasted or cluttered forums with it, but now I wonder: how many times has it crept under my skin?
